Whenever I start sending spam messages to various places that say they are trying to do something about it, I notice I seem to get twice as many spam messages as I started with. Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks Rose
Just a note of thanks for all the responses about defragmenting my hardrive. It worked great! Now, if there is anyone who could tell me how to clean up my hardrive of unwanted files, so that I could speed things up a little, I would be once again appreciative. I have windows 95 on my computer. It is a HP Pentium II pavillion. Have a nice day! Hi Cheri, One method I used - and yes, it is extremely tedious but it does pay off - is to check the census for that surname in the suspected county to find your ancestor as a child. I didn't know his father's name so I checked each and every listing of that surname until I found him as a child. I then worked that family forward in time to make sure the child lived. It's worked twice for me. And yes, my surnames are common ones. It does take time but ... it also allowed me to find out how he met his future wife. She lived 4 dwellings (farms, in this case) away from him for a period of time. In your case, I'd check the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses for all Wilson households in both Shelby Co., IN looking for Asa as a newborn, an 11-year-old and a 21-year-old. I'd try Shelby Co. first. Back then, they tended to marry close to home. But if you don't find him in Shelby, try Marion Co. as it's a neighboring county. He might have been from there. I'm doing the same thing right now trying to find a 3x greatgrandfather. I know his last name but not his first. I know his wife's name and their children so I have to search every census entry to find his family in order to get his name. No luck so far but they're there. Somewhere. Good luck! Hi Everyone, My 'Brick -walls", I have allot, so here goes. BAYER, Benjamine Franklin, Hagerstown, MD., m. Lucy Sigler, moved to Ill. These are my ggrandparents. I can't find where they were before this time. I know my grandfather Koahline Lureigne was born in Hagerstown 1877 according to my father's birth certificate, but on my grandfather's death certif, says he was born in Smithburg, Md. I don't have any information on Lucy Sigler BAYER (my ggrandmother). Seems the family moved to Dixion, Ill., I don't know when. My grandfather married Ethel Luella BOWERS, date unknown. My grandmother was born 1877 in Dixion, Ill. Father Christ BOWERS, m. Sarah Durr in Pa. They moved to Ill. before my grandmother was born, so I have no other information. I need help. Any information on these families would be most appreciated. One of my most stubborn most wanted. CHARLOTTE JEANETTE (NETTIE) JAMES is in the 1870 NV, Virginia City census. She died three years later according to several letters. I have been unable to find any record of her death or burial. There should have been an obit in the Territorial Enterprise as her husband was prominent in the town. The rest of the family is in the 1880 census so they didn't move. Just to give encouragement......I have been stuck for years trying to find parents of JOHN BATES and ISABELLA (HARTFORD) BATES. I recently got an answer to a query I had put on a message board well over a year ago. The connection looks good and I hope to have the information I need very soon. BTW, this query was not on a surname board but a locality board. So keep posting your queries....you never know when some "kissin' cousin" will find it. Joanne
