    1. [NEWGEN] OT: SEWING MACHINE FOR CHRISTMAS
    2. Debbie
    3. Hello, List Members ~ You have always been able to help with off-the-wall requests in the past so I am sure you will be able to come through again this time. Just came back from celebrating Turkey Day with the 70+ year old Mother-In-Law - just to make this genealogy related :-) - and found out she could use a new sewing machine for Christmas. I have been researching on the internet for the past hour and am probably more confused than before. So I am going to throw out my list of how she would be using this machine and ask if any of you can suggest the *perfect* Christmas gift . . . 1. Very light-duty sewing only - mostly cotton fabrics 2. Hemming and resizing garments (does not sew clothes) 3. Makes stuffed animals out of those craft panels from Wal-Mart 4. Hems around those pre-quilted baby quilt tops from Wal-Mart 5. Pieces quilt tops together 6. Might do one or two craft/quilt projects per month 7. Interested in only straight-stitch, zigzag stitch and buttonhole stitch. Now I am going to give you my list of criteria for this machine . . . 1. Absolute maximum limit of $200 - anything more expensive would be a waste 2. Don't want a total piece of junk and realize you won't get top-of-the-line for this money 3. Must be very easy to use - she has trouble understanding written instructions 4. A reliable used or refurbished machine with some sort of warranty would be acceptable. Also, do any of you have any experience ordering from allbrands.com? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide to a desperate daughter-in-law. Debbie

    2. Debbie, Janome-New Home makes a light weight easy to use model for about $l50.00, can't remember what its called. It has a few more stitches than u wanted, maybe 17 but is ideal for crafter/quilters. I can find out the model if you want. They sell it at the sewing shop I use. I've been wanting one for myself for classes when I don't need my big one. Some dealers give lessons on how to use the machines. Hope this helps you & good luck. Gay

    2. “The Christmas Dinner” from Wither’s Juvenilla Lo, now is come our joyful`st feast! Let every man be jolly. Eache roome with yvie leaves is drest, And every post with holly.
