    1. [NEWGEN] hello
    2. Donna Brock
    3. Hi Everyone It's been almost a year since I unsubscribed, and it sure seems good to start reading NEWGEN-L again. I won't have a lot of time for writing, as I'm still dealing with health problems with my husband, but I'm trying to spend at least a little time each day for me(which means computer and genealogy). Starting the first of the year we're supposed to have someone come in for 4 hours a day, which will give me more free time. For those of you who were on the list last year, you may remember that I was searching for my Smith line, and had made contact with some cousins in GA. Well, while we were on our extended trip, I met them, and their wonderful! I felt like I'd always known them. I still don't know a lot more about the Smiths, but I have all the cousins excited about genealogy, and we're making some progress. Even though I didn't find much information about my grt.grandfather Smith, I was able to find a good bit about my grt.grandmother's line. And, we're planning a reunion for next Spring. For any of you who are new to this list, I want to tell you it's the best thing that had happened to me in a long time. I don't know what I would have done without all the encouragement, especially form Dr. Bill and Betty. And not just about genealogy. Everyone gave me so much support. No one made fun of my novice status on the computer and on genealogy. I learned so much form everyone. This list is the best! As soon as I have more time, I'll Let you know about all my new surnames. It's great to be back. Donna

    3. Elaine, thanks for your response. I went into Netscape (off line) and found the message and e-mailed the lady in question. I thought she was off the Kentuckiana-L mailing list but if she is this message seemed to be sent directly to me alone. I have never had any contact with the person and cannot imagine why she would be e-mailing me in the first place. I am typing what was on the SUBJECT line etc and see what you think== (click on the www thing below = it is just for your info of my message received) SUBJECT: US PRESIDENTS AND FBI SECRETS = PLEASE VISIT (http://WWW.2600.COM) the supposed attachment was entitled REEEGEC.GIF.vbs Type: VBScript File (application/x-unknown-content-type-VBS File) Encoding: quoted - printable When I clicked on the GIF item is when all haywire broke loose. But little did I think of a virus but an extra large picture of some sort. I had been receiving many cemetery and tombstone pictures and guess I thought this was just another. Plus the fact I had just gotten home from a 30 hour bus ride from Twentynine Palms Marine Base in southern California where I had been for 2 weeks pending the arrival of my first great grandson who refused to cooperate with us. The (little - haaa) stinker finally decided to enter our world on November 19th at a whoppin' 9 pounds 12-1/2 ounces and 20-1/2 inches long. Now this granddaughter of mine (she is my daughter Sabrina's only daughter) is maybe 5'2" at the most and a WET 95 pounder. I still can't believe she had "THIS" baby. Their little daughter Tori is 16 months old and maybe 18/19 pounds at the most. I had updated Norton Virus about a month or so ago from the Internet. I defrag per Dr Bill. Now I'm not sure what you mean by "scan". I might have done it and not remember what it is/was. How is this done to refresh my memory. I went back into MY COMPUTER this evening and clicked on "Select All" and then on "invert or may revert" and the icons came up (showed). Then I clicked out and came back in and they were gone again. Thanks for any help etc you can toss my way. I have sent an e-mail to the man who helped set me up and hope he answers. 3. Yes, they should be notified they probably have a worm on their system, they may not even know it since the worms most often transmit mail without the sender's knowledge. I am curious. Was the mailing list on eGroups? Last year Kak was passed through to me from a mailing list on that server. Do you have any virus program in place? Norton or McAfee, with current updates? I suspect that you need to run a scan if it can be done. If you don't, see if the person who will help you has a current program with updates to scan your system. Have you tried using the Juno free access? It would get you to the internet for that free HouseCall virus scan. I can send and receive messages via IE Outlook Express and/or my JUNO account which I keep for "help" messages <grin> in lieu of telephone when I do have problems.
