Can anyone tell me where I should look to find where "Beat 8" is in Choctaw County, Alabama in the 1880 census? I think I'm wandering around the 'Net in circles... Thank you! Wendy Boughner Whipple

Hey everyone! For those of you who don't already know, transcriptions of the 1880 US Census, 1881 British census and the 1881 Canadian Census are online for free and they are searchable! You can find them at... www.familysearch.com Ella PS. I'm not sure if it is free permanently or temporarily. Either way...have fun! My website has some old photos and great links! Check it out at... http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html
In case there are those of you who haven't already heard, the LDS website now has the 1880 US Census, and the 1881 English and Canadian Censuses online in a searchable database. www.familysearch.org I have already located some of my "missing" family members. However, the system got really bogged down around 1pm CST, I haven't been able to get back to it this evening, so I don't know what it's like now. The data is arranged so that you can see an entire household, and the neighbors' households. I found searching a little fiddly, but got used to it. It also tells you where to find the image (film reference nos.). Huzzah! Wendy Boughner Whipple www.DianasLegacy.net -- None but a mule denies his family. - Arabian proverb

Can anyone share their experience or opinion about GEN-BOOK software? I have heard that it is very good. I am particularly interested in knowing if it is "easy" to use or if one needs to be a very intuitive, high end computer or genealogy user to gain the most from it. Is proficiency with GEDCOMS necessary? Are there other products as good or better? Many Thanks-Paul --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. OK, Here Goes With My Present Crumbling Wall, For 10 years I had been unable to find "anything" on Emma CLEEK of Camden Twp (Schuyler) Illinois except her 1st marriage was to a PRUNTY and her 2nd marriage was to a JOHNSON. Thanks to the on-line Illinois marriage index I found and have now received a copy of her marriage license in 1892 to "Robert Farris / Pharos PRUNTY" who states he is a farmer in Camden Twp (Schuyler) Illinois. They were married in Brown County for some reason. His family was and continues to be in Huntsville Twp (Schuyler) Illinois. I have spent hours and hours trying to find Robert or Pharos and Emma (CLEEK) PRUNTY in the 1900 Census, not in Schuyler, Brown, or Cass County, Illinois! No luck finding them in the 1910 census either. I do now know that they had at least 2 children but I don't know where or when, they are named Joel Byran and Mabel Daisy. Pharos died very suddenly in 1917 in Beardstown (Cass) Illinois at his twin brothers home. In the 1920 Beardstown (Cass) Ill census I find a Florence PRUNTY age 19 who was widowed with a son Russell age 4 and 3/4, yes, she was the widow of Pharos and was not yet 15 when her son Russell was born. Where or where are Emma and her children in the 1920 census, but I do know she was Emma JOHNSON living in Ft Madison (Lee) Iowa when her step-mother died in 1937 and was still there when her father died in 1948. My husband's Aunt just found a death notice for Emma in the Rushville (Schuyler) newspaper, she was Mrs Robert JOHNSON a loving wife and mother, services were to be held at Ft Madison (Lee) Iowa, she died 22 Jan 1956. But, I cannot locate the Woodland Cemetery where she is supposed to have been buried or the Clements Chapel that was supposed to have handled her services. And of course, the names and location of her children are not mentioned. I am sending for her obit and death record, but as it has been a couple of months since I first wrote Lee County asking for another obit and I still have not heard anything back from them, I expect the wait will be long. If any of our list members are researching these names or from these areas of Ill or Ia and have any suggestions for me to help locate information there, please drop me a line. I am researching many family lines, but the one that is most difficult is HUGHES. I do not know the given name for my great grandfather HUGHES, but he married Jemima (maiden name unknown), who was born 1810 in KY. They had four known children in Illinois. Jemima and the children were in Lamar Co., TX by 1847--but the husband was not there. The children were: Stewart Hughes, b. abt. 1834 in IL William M. Hughes, b. about 1836 in IL John Robert Hughes, b. abt. 1838 in IL Lucinda A. Hughes, b. 1841 in Illinois I am almost certain that they resided in or near Jersey County Illinois, but I have not proven that yet. Other lines I am researching are: GIBSON - SC > TX RITCHEY - PA > SC > AR > TX > OK GARNER - VA > SC > AR > TX LEWIS - SC STEWART - SC PORTER - SC Barbara Vanzant

Hi everyone! My homepage URL is at the end of this post. The names that I am researching are as follows... BAIRD - The earliest back I have is John BAIRD born about 1845 in Ireland. He married a Margaret born in Ireland about 1845. I find them living on Prime (Ellsworth) Street in the 1880 Philadelphia, PA. census. COLEMAN - The earliest back I have is James COLEMAN, the father of James COLEMAN born 1880-1881 in Liverpool, England. James, born 1880-1881, was raised in an orphanage since a young age when his father died. He married Fanny HARLING in 1906 in the Parish of Thornton, Lancashire, England. His marriage certificate shows that his father was James COLEMAN and that he was deceased. They lived on South American Street in Philadelphia according to the 1920 census. CRISTALDI - Not much info here. My grandmother was Margaret CRISTALDI born about 1915. The CRISTALDIs were from Italy. Margaret married John/Jack COLEMAN. He was the son of James and Fanny COLEMAN. They lived on Sigel Street in Philadelphia. EAVES/EYVES - Annie EAVES was the daughter of John and Anne EAVES. They were descendants of the EYVES of Fishwick Hall. I have them traced back to 1445 thank to cousin David EAVES from England. The EAVES/EYVES lost everything they owned because they chose to practice Catholicism. Annie married John HARLING and they came to Philadelphia, PA from Lancashire, England between 1910 and 1920. They owned a restaurant on South Front Street. HARLING - Not much info here. John HARLING was born in Caton, Lancashire, England about 1864. He married Annie EAVES. He was the son of Elizabeth HARLING. I don't know if it is her maiden name or married name. JORDAN - The earliest I have is Thomas JORDAN born about 1835 in Ireland. He married a Josephine RICHARDSON/RICKERTON who was born about 1857 in PA. I have them living on East Moyamensing Avenue according to the 1880 Philadelphia census. They both died by 1900 and most of their children are found living with Josephine's mother Matie on Oregon Avenue in the 1900 Philadelphia census. KIRCHER (and every other spelling) - The earliest I have is Louis KIRCHER born about 1836 in Weinsberg, Wurttemberg. He was a private in the 29th New York Infantry Company C from June of 1861 to June of 1863. He married Henrietta WEINBERG/VINEYARD who was born about 1840 in Westphalia, Prussia, in Bridgeton, New Jersey. I find them living on what is now called Alder Street in the 1880 Philadelphia census. RITTER/RUTTER - The earliest I have is George RITTER/RUTTER, born about 1830, married to an Emma. With John and Sarah RITTER/RUTTER, both born about 1790 in PA., being either his parents or grandparents. George and Emma lived on Otsego/Water Street in Philadelphia according to all censuses. WEIKEL (and other spellings) - The WEIKELS confuse the heck out me! I have as far back as John Adam WEIKEL born in the 1850's in PA. He married Margaret RITTER/RUTTER. Now...I have a copy of a death certificate that shows that John's parents are John and Mary WEIKEL, both born in PA. I find on most census documents though that his mother was born in Ireland and one shows his father as being born in Germany. They lived on Lee Street in Philadelphia. Going back to the 1870 census, I find a John and Mary WEIKEL, both born in PA. with a son John who was kind of close in age. But...I also found an Adam WEIKEL born in Germany married to a Margaret born in Ireland with a son John who is kind of close in age to my John. Another kicker to this is...Adam and Margaret had other children who I find living with and near my John throughout the later years. I've haven't confirmed the relationship yet of the others to my John. I don't know which John in 1870 was mine, hence, I don't know who his parents were. Yet another kicker, my grandmother swears that her grandfather John WEIKEL was Native American. Yet my grandmother's cousin swears it was his wife Mary RITTER/RUTTER. If anyone has a connection or any info on any of these families, I would love to hear from you. Take care and good luck, Ella

Bunny, I did a search and the only hit I found was in Spanish which I know nothing about, but it looks like it has something to do with an HP product. Maybe you do, or did have an HP printer? If you know someone who reads Spanish, let me know and I'll forward what I found.
