To go along with the page that Bill Cribbs sent earlier today. This was sent to me by someone who knows I am into genealogy. I know you all will appreciate these as well. Lest any of us forget that while we are searching for our ancestors, what are we leaving for those who come after us? Rose Brunais BEATITUDES OF A FAMILY GENEALOGIST Blessed are the great-grandmothers, who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters, For they tell the story of their time. Blessed are all grandfathers who filed every legal document, For they provided the proof. Blessed are the grandmothers who preserved family Bibles and diaries, for they preserved our heritage. Blessed are fathers who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry, For some, they are the only link to the past. Blessed are mothers who relate family traditions and legends to the family, For one of her children will surely remember. Blessed are the relatives who fill in family sheets with extra data, To them we owe the family history. Blessed is any family whose members strive for the preservation of records, For theirs is a labour of love. Karima, The reason for sending url's is to give readers (newbies & oldies) links to check out who are hunting or researching for a name, a special place, history, or anything that helps in genealogy & their research. Sending url's helps those who can't be at the computer for hours. With this list, we share anything that is genealogy or "newbies" with computers. With the "Newbie's" in mind, the url's give them a tool to use as they need it. I could not agree more, with out the history to go with the name you are just collecting names. Not only their personal history but the events going on in the world at the time, or how could you begin to understand what their lives were like. I've been on the list a long time and I think these type of stories are great, and sometimes are things I would not have found or thought to look for. Thanks Sally! John Fiske said: "Without genealogy, the study of history is lifeless." I say, Without history, genealogy is meaningless. I'm certainly not the listowner so it's not my decision, but I appreciate the historical links, because it enriches what I know about history, and times my ancestors lived through. Thanks, Sally! Sorry if the article offended you. However, think anything dealing with history is usually of interest to anyone doing genealogy. Having been one of the first members of this list, have always posted sites that others might find interesting. Again, sorry if you're offended by the posting.
