    3. In yesterday's Boston Globe: Died Wednesday, February 7, at Hawthorne House in Freeport, Maine, surrounded by loving members of her family. Born Wanda E. Scovil in Rothesay, New Brunswick in 1912 and after graduating from the University of New Brunswick she married Donald Edward Swift at the height of the depression. Donald was successful as a journalist and the family grew to include two boys and three girls. In 1949, changing their name to Crotty, the family moved to Boston and sought treatment for Donald, Jr. who suffered a congenital heart condition. But, he died in 1951 at the age of 13. His father died five years later at the age of 44 in 1956. Wanda began what turned out to be an amazing career as a Nanny, creating a meaningful and rewarding life raising the children of the Spang, Crocker and Plum families in the Boston area until her retirement in 1999. Wanda was also predeceased by her daughters, Ingrid Peterson in 1984 and Wanda Touchie in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Taragowski of Arlington, Texas, a son, Thomas Crotty, of Freeport, Maine, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Canada and the United States. Plans are underway to hold a memorial celebration in Maine on May 20.
