I am looking for any information on Bartholomew HENNESSY (HENESY) who was married to Margaret MCCARTHY from Ireland somewhere between 1830's to 1848. They had 5 children, John, Bartholomew, Daniel (who became a physician), Elizabeth and Jeremiah. The oldest children were born in Ireland and Jeremiah was born in New Brunswick. They settled in the Emigrant Road area of Westmorland County. My ancestor from this family was Bartholomew (the son), who married a Sarah WOODS from PEI. They had six children, Daniel Joseph my Great Grandfather, and Margaret, John, Frank, Alice and Sarah Anne. The mother, Sarah, died in 1880 and Bartholomew remarried a woman named Susan, but soon died in 1883. Most of the children were quite young. Daniel Joseph was an older teenage and somehow ended up in New Hampshire. I have read some cemetery records, Bartholomew's probate records and of course, the Story of Melrose and some census records. My sister had a brief on-line correspondence with a woman who said she knew this HENNESSY family came from Kilkenny around 1848. The passenger records show a Bartholomew coming in the 1930's but apparently alone or not mine. His children were still being born in Ireland so either he went back and forth or he is not mine. But they never finished their correspondence so I don't know the Kilkenny connection. Also Daniel, the physician, has an obituary in a medical journal that says he was born in Bandon, Ireland. This was a stronghold of the McCarthy's and Bartholomew did marry one of the McCarthy sisters mentioned in The Story of Melrose, so it does lead me to believe that they were from the Bandon area, at least for a while. I would like any information on these families, but specifically: 1. What is their connection to Kilkenny, if any. I do know there are still Hennessy's in Kilkenny today, 2. What may have happened to the young children of Bartholomew Jr. and Sarah Woods? I have checked what census records I can find and I really can't find much. I also checked census records for Bangor, ME as this is where the physician Daniel moved and set up his practice. He was married to Alissandra BLISS. Thank you all for any information you can provide. Sue Hennessy Badin, NC suehennessy@mac.com
Sue, According to the 1851 census, here is who came, all in 1843 (not 1848), from Kilkenny and were settled in Botsford in 1851. This from Toner's book. Bartholomew 55, Bartholomew Jr 18, Daniel 14, Elizabeth 12, John 16, Margaret 50. That is all I have, no more. Hope it helps. sincerely.......Patsy Hennessy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Hennessy" <suehennessy@mac.com> To: <newbrunswick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 7:08 AM Subject: [ NB ] HENNESSY/MCCARTHY >I am looking for any information on Bartholomew HENNESSY (HENESY) who was > married to Margaret MCCARTHY from Ireland somewhere between 1830's to > 1848. > > They had 5 children, John, Bartholomew, Daniel (who became a physician), > Elizabeth and Jeremiah.
