Happy new year, list! My ancestor, Jonas Culver, was granted land along the Salmon River in Sussex Parish but I'll be darned if I can find it on any map, old or new. I seem to recall that the name of the river you cross as you drive into the town of Sussex is the Salmon River but it's been a few years now and the memory is failing... Can anyone give me a rough idea of where this river is and where it starts and ends? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Hi Diane, Happy New Year! The term Salmon River was once applied to the upper portion of the Kennebecasis River - probably upstream from about where the Smith Creek enters. The only current reference to that name so far as I know is that the old covered bridge which is preserved beside Route 890 just beyond what is locally known as Four Corners (probably little over a mile from the Sussex town limits) is known unofficially as the Salmon River Bridge. I am quite sure the reference to Jonas Culver's grant on the Salmon River is the same one listed officially as being on the Kennebecasis River (i.e. at Penobsquis). > -----Original Message----- > From: newbrunswick-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:newbrunswick-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Diane McLeod > Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 3:35 AM > To: newbrunswick@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ NB ] Salmon River (Sussex) > > > Happy new year, list!
