    3. Hi Don, Re: "Third, the free Acrobat Reader software does not, to my knowledge, allow users to cut-and-paste sections of the file." Not to argue, but you can copy and paste using Adobe Reader. I just confirmed it with Reader 7 on a Mac and Reader 5 on a PC (I fairly sure the later versions will work too, I just didn't check them.) You need to select the "Text Select" or the "Graphics Select" tools** to make the selections but then you can do a regular copy and paste to another document - no trouble. ** Adobe change their tool (and other) names from version to version so so be flexible if your looking for your version of these tools. It is possible that the "plug in" versions of Reader that are used as adjunct applications with web browsers might omit these functions. These are frequently "light" versions of the real thing so it is possible these tools are missing, but then it is usually possible to "save" the PDF file and then open it with a full version of Reader. ( I have just checked out Safari running on a Mac - and it can copy and paste from PDF documents, but this is not the browser that most people use.) The only reasons you would not be able to copy and paste would be: if the PDF file didn't conform to the file standard, if you had set the security settings in your PDF files to prevent it, if the copy of Reader you were using was damaged, or if the computer platform running Reader was configured in some strange way to inhibit it. Naturally you can only copy and paste within the single page you are viewing but there's nothing to stop someone copying and pasting a sequence of pages - if they have the patience.
