    3. Does anyone know if there are records of the workers in the Chatham mills? I am looking for Albert Donaldson( 1847-????), married to Annie Lloyd and their children Hattie (b 1884), William (1889), Marguerite(1893), Leonder( 1896) James( 1897), I know from the 1901 and 1911 censuses that the males were all workers at the mill at some point. Thanks Beverley

    3. 1851 Canada Census for Queensbury, York Co, NB: DONALDSON: William, m, H, 38, Irish, Harriett, f, W, 38, John (absent), m, S, 18, Ann, f, D, 15, William, m, S, 13, Robert, m, S, 10, Albert, m, S, 4, Leander, m, S, 1, LOOKS like the family arrived in NB in June of 1839, though hard to make out third digit in "arrival" year. It does carry from father, William, to son, William, after which children were born in NB. There IS an "older" Donaldson family in NB, starting with Lauchlan, b. Scotland, but his family settled in Charlotte County. The "Irish" connection of William and family, and the fact that he indicates an "arrival" in NB in 1839 (though it's tough to make out exactly). The fact that it surely APPEARS he's a later arrival, would indicate to me he is of a different family group. In "First Families", Lauchlan Donaldson's information reads as follows: "DONALDSON: Lauchlan Donaldson b. @1785, in south of Scotland, died 22-Apr-1873, s/o James Donaldson and Sarah Shaw. He came to NB in 1804, and settled in Saint John. m. Alexandria Sophia Gilbert, b. ?, d. 1867, d/o Francis Gilbert of Saint John, and had one son and three daughters." So, he DID have a son, though I'm not sure what his son's name was. Since William was b. @1813, he'd surely be in the same GENERATION as Lauchlin's son... Just can't seem to make that connection. I'd GUESS he's not, but I've seen stranger connections! :-) Jared > Does anyone know if there are records of the workers in the Chatham mills? > > I am looking for Albert Donaldson( 1847-????), married to Annie Lloyd and > their children Hattie (b 1884), William (1889), Marguerite(1893), Leonder( > 1896) James( 1897), > I know from the 1901 and 1911 censuses that the males were all workers at > the mill at some point. > > Thanks > > Beverley > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NEWBRUNSWICK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ------------------------ Jared "Jed" Handspicker jedh@jedh.com

    3. Thanks Jared, you went to a lot of trouble. I need to rephrase my question. I have William and Harriet and the other children all traced; it is just Albert and his family who disappeared. I know he died between 1911 and 1922, but PANB has nothing, cemetaries have nothing, searches of other provinces and ancestry.com show nothing. The family did arrive from Co Armagh in 1839 and thanks to the 1851 census I was able to trace them both back to Ireland where there were great stories waiting, and down to the US, where Harriet went and died alone, while William stayed behind at the home of his only daughter Ann, and was remembered by my grandmother, a small child at the time. I am so frustrated that the rest of the family has been traced against all probability, while the ones who should be found in the 20 century have just vanished. I hoped someone from the Mirimichi might have some suggestions and I know they worked at the Mill in Chatham from the 1901-1911 censuses. Anyway thanks for trying and replying.
