    3. Folks, do I need help. Provincial Archives of New Brunswick PANB :: Daniel F Johnson's New Brunswick Newspaper Vital Statistics One of the United Empire Loyalists who came to this province about the time of the evacuation of New York in 1788 (sic) was Alexander MONTGOMERY who was one of the grantees of the old city of Parrtown. According to the 'Toronto News', 7th inst., the heirs are no laying claim to a valuable property in the heart of New York City and their chance of success are good. John MONTGOMERY was seen in his law office in the Walker building yesterday, but was not in a position to give any information beyond the fact that Alexander Montgomery, before coming to the province, gave a long lease of some fifty acres of land, which is now in the centre of New York City and that the lease had expired some 15 or 20 years ago. - St. John 'Sun' The Toronto 'Evening News', Aug. 7th: In 1778, before the British evacuation of New York, Alexander MONTGOMERY, in return for a lump sum in cash, gave a 99 year lease of 56 acres of land in what is now the heart of the city. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Montgomery fled to New Brunswick with other United Empire Loyalists. This Alexander Montgmery is probably one of the original grantees of Parrtown (old St. John). John MONTGOMERY, barrister-at-law was called upon at his residence last eve. by a representative of 'The Telegraph'. He stated that he had heard of the matter and expected to have the full particulars very shortly, but did not think that his family was interested. Montgomery - Ellis: Matilda Montgomery was born circa 1815 in New Brunswick. Her marriage circa 1836 to Ephraim Ellis of Digby, Nova Scotia. The wedding took place in New Brunswick. Their son, William Ensley Ellis was born 1837 in Pittsfield Corner New Brunswick, another source points to the Salisbury area. Possible that Pittsfield Corner was a Parish of St John or Lancaster.
