Does anyone have access to the 1861 census for Kings County? I am need of a lookup for the surname Boyd/Boid, and would appreciate your help. Thanking you in advance, Sara sara5d@optonline.net
Hi, Who are you looking for in the 1861 Kings Co. census? There are a couple of households in Springfield Parish, plus a couple of single individuals. Unfortunately, Studholm Parish which would be another likely location for Boyds, is missing for the 1861 census. Those in Springfield Parish are: BOYD, Henry, age 36, Irish, Carpenter, Presbyterian - Lodger in houshold of William McDade, miller of Upham Parish BOYD, Hugh m Head 79 Irish Episcopal Ann f Wife 80 " " both sick or infirm BOYD, Hugh m Head 38 Irish Farm Proprietor Methodist Elizabeth f Wife 21 Native " Margaret E. f Dau. 7 " " Robert m Son 1 " " BOYD, Peter , age 13, Native, Roman Catholic - in household of Luke Higgins, farmer, Parish of Norton I assume you have checked the 1861 census for Queens Co. To John Elliott: Thank you for the additional information, and sorry for this late response. The Boyds are hard to track because they cross between Queens and Kings over the census decades, and there are often multiple marriages for the men. I am sorry to admit that I'm mighty confused about all of them at this point. But below I had a marriage for 'a' Hugh Boyd who did not remain in Queens County after this marriage. I would believe, for lack of any other information on them, that this marriage is a match to your Hugh Boyd of 1861 Springfield, Kings. Not certain, just a possible thread. Queens Marriage, p96: Hugh Boyd, Johnston, Elizabeth Steel, same; Edward McMulkin, Catherine Burgess, 29 Feb 1860 ........................................................................................ BOYD, Hugh m Head 38 Irish Farm Proprietor Methodist Elizabeth f Wife 21 Native " Margaret E. f Dau. 7 " " Robert m Son 1 " " I am primarily interested in the Thomas Boyds. Thank you again, Sara
