    1. Re: [ NB ] First Family Site
    2. Hi I would like to echo Polly's warnings about the First Families. This was a lively subject of discussion at our most recent NBGS Board of Directors meeting. The information on First Families is not a collection of genealogies - it was originally designed to be an in depth guide to the MC1 and MC80 (and other) collections at PANB, helping researchers find the sources for information on families they are interested in. Since MC1 and MC80 are all secondary sources of varying ages and accuracy, the information in First Families is thus not necessarily correct, as Polly notes below. So please be careful about using the family information constructed in the files as it may have been superceded by later, more accurate, research. Please note the caveats in the following: http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies.html and especially note the following from the Introduction by the compiler: "Researchers should remember that the contents of genealogical files, books and collections at the Provincial Archives vary in composition, size, completeness and accuracy and I was unable to verify the accuracy of the information found in these various sources. Readers who detect errors and who wish to submit corrections or who want to send donations of genealogies, either large or small, are encouraged to contact the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, PO Box 6000, Fredericton, NB, E3B 5H1. The contents of this guide in no way are intended to replace original resources and records found at the Provincial Archives. This guide must be viewed as an annotated index intended to direct researchers to the numerous books and files held by the Provincial Archives."
