Yep, to me a border crossing is on land. Many came from across the seas to North America, disembarking in various Canadian ports (which means they entered/crossed the border into Canada), then later crossed into the USA by land. The reverse also happened. There is a recently added database which does give actual land crossings. Sorry I don't have the URL to hand, but it was quite extensive.
