I agree. The public archives are doing a great service to the genealogist - everything is free unless you want a search performed on your behalf or you want a paper copy of something. On that note, did you hear about the Nova Scotia Historical Vital Statistics that came on-line this week: https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/ Whether or not you know you had family that were born, married or died in the province, it is worth checking out to see if a record can be found. You get see an image of the actual certificate. Diana Diana Lynn Tibert Milford, NS Suzanne Carter wrote: >I received an email tonight which announced the Burke's Peerage site. You get to search for a day for a little over $30 CN. Whoopee!!! It just further points out how lucky we are to have the PANB that offers SO MUCH for free online. The latest offering is Danny Johnson's Newspaper Vital Stats which I hope you will send what you can to support -see the PANB site for an address. I feel that the PANB is second to none in the world for offering so much data for free to us genealogists. It seems generally as soon as you cross the pond, the wallet must come out, unless it is a private individual's site. PANB is the BEST! The archivists are terrific and to be honoured. The only issue I have with the new Nova Scotia site is that they start at 1864. That doesnt help for those of us with deeper roots. Does anybody know why, and if there are plans for expanding the base back? Beverley On 3/22/07, Diana Lynn Tibert <tibert@ns.sympatico.ca> wrote: > > I agree. Yes !! My wife's name line went to NS in the late 1770s, and then to NB without leaving their residence in NS [Peter McDiarmid if the 74th Foot -- from Argyl] Others arrived there [ in NS ] later. --- Beverley Clarkson <clarkson3@gmail.com> wrote: > The only issue I have with the new Nova Scotia site > is that they start at 1864. Hello Beverley, I think, and I could be wrong, that vitals statistics began at 1864. All other records concerning births, marriages and deaths are only recorded in church records or in newspapers announcements. Diana Beverley Clarkson wrote: >PANB is the BEST!
