I am still working on the above families and will be in Fredericton in about week to do some research . Specifically I am researching the families of Loyalists Cornelius Ackerman and Fanny Lawrence ( father Richard) Vanderbilt , and Matthew and Mary Phillips. One question I have is where Cornelius and Fanny are buried. 1. Fanny died ; Daniel F Johnson : Volume 2 Number 1418 Date : September 19, 1822 County : Saint John Place : Saint John Newspaper : City Gazette d. 6th inst., Fredericton, Frances w/o Cornelius ACKERMAN, age 64. NBRG 2. Cornelius died ; Daniel F Johnson : Volume 11 Number 1695 Date : December 30, 1846 County : York Place : Fredericton Newspaper : The Head Quarters d. Victoria, Wakefield (Carleton Co.) 21st inst., Cornealius AKERMAN, age 98. (cross reference: ACKERMAN) Does anyone have a suggestion about possible cemeteries in Victoria Corner? Why would the death place be listed as Victoria, Wakefield? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks Janet
Dear Janet, Victoria Corner was a town or settlement in the Parish of Wakefield, thus the obit reading Victoria, Wakfield. I have "Southern Carleton County Cemeteries," by R. Wallace Hale I don't know if all Wakefield cemeteries are included, but he did seem to do a thorough job on the Parish. The Victoria Corner Cemetery is also included in the book, but there is no listing for the Ackerman's in the book. They may have been buried elsewhere, but more likely the graves were lost. Some families didn't have the money to erect a monument, and fires and such would often destroy the records the cemetery kept, as well. If there ever was a monument, it could have been lost or destroyed. It seems to me that the Ackerman family is fairly well researched. If there was a grave, someone would probably have found it by now. Best of luck, Lisa Z
8 Jan 1821, Cornelius ACKERMAN witnessed the will of William BELL in Parish of Northampton, York Co. so maybe handy there. Mathew PHILLIPS, wife Mary, Parish of Northampton, made a will 18 Jan 1820, proved 12 Aug 1823. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet Armstrong" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 05, 2009 11:17 AM Subject: [ NB ] Loyalist Families- ACKERMAN, STEVENS, PAYNE, COX, PHILLIPS,LAWRENCE >I am still working on the above families and will be in Fredericton in > about week to do some research . > Specifically I am researching the families of Loyalists Cornelius > Ackerman and Fanny Lawrence ( father Richard) Vanderbilt , and Matthew > and Mary Phillips. > One question I have is where Cornelius and Fanny are buried. > 1.
