Does anyone know if the surname "Gallishan" evolved into "Gullison"? I have heard that this is the case but can't find an individual example of this having happened for verification. Cheryl
A quick search on famsearch shows Gallishan for New Brunswick, Massachusetts, etc.; Galashan for Scotland. For Gullisan, it shows Galisan or Gullison, Gullishon for places i.e. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Massachusetts. A lot of names were spelt however the census taker or clergyman deemed it so because so many were illiterate. Thank you. I have seen those derivations and I'm curious because those descendents of the pre-loyalists seem to have disappeared by the 1851 census. There are, however, many "Gullisons". Interesting! Thanks for taking the time to respond. Cheryl ----- Original Message ----- From: "S. Cheryl... who exactly are you searching for? The 1851 has quite a few parishes missing in different counties.
