Hello, As I've mentioned before, one of my ancestors, Lucy McDANIEL or McDONALD is a concrete-block wall for me. No one seems to know who her parents were. The consensus is that she was born ~1813 in New Brunswick. But, she married in 1832 in Lubec, Maine, to Daniel RICE. They remained living there and had 10 children. Last week I was looking through the archives of Lists and was reminded that there was an old record showing the full name, Lucy E. McDANIEL. That made me wonder whether she could have been an Elizabeth McDANIEL or McDONALD who had the nickname, Lucy. This morning I was looking at the archives again and found a message mentioning that the "Campobello web site" had been updated. And, it mentioned that there was new information on a McDONALD / McDANIEL family in early Lubec, ME. I immediately went to the site and looked at the data base mentioned. It starts with a John and Hannah (?) McDONALD who had a son, John McDONALD, who married Huldah RAMSDELL in 1805 in Eastport, ME. They had many children, with some born in Eastport and some in Lubec. There were 3 sons, and then a daughter, Sally (died young), then Hannah (who married), then another son, then Betsy, b1815 (no info), then a son, and then another daughter, Mary, and then more sons, etc. I have now become more curious. Could this Betsy McDONALD had had the birth-name, Elizabeth. And, if so, could she have been my ancestor? And, could she have taken on the nickname, Lucy, as a school-child or teen? For example, Elizabeth "Betsy" "Lucy" McDONALD / McDANIEL. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/can-nb-charlotte/2004-01/1074486303 http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbcampob/camp8.htm Daniel and "Lucy" RICE remained in Lubec, ME, and so did the McDONALD family I mentioned above. And this is the first time, I think, that I've seen RICE and McDANIEL in Lubec at the same time. What I have also found this month is that daughter, Amelia RICE, might have married in Maine to Charles McNEAR (of Maine) and then come down to MA ~1870. I had guessed that son, Charles, had come down to MA ~1872, but now wonder if he came down to MA with his sister in 1870. The McNEAR family initially lived in Boston but later lived in Medford, MA. It seems Charles remained close to his sister's family until his death in 1916. Charles had married near Boston in 1875 to Adelaide Crosby HUTCHINSON of Winchester, MA. It has just occurred to me that he could have found work on either the CROSBY Farm or the nearby HUTCHINSON Farm. Unfortunately, soon after the births of 2 daughters, Charles and Adelaide separated. I still don't know where Charles lived during 1880's and 1890's, but he did live in Milton, MA, for a time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)
