Hi I am new to the list and hope someone can help me find out more about my GGGrandmother Mary Esther BLANCH, especially her marriage and birth details Mary, born 1835, married my GGGrandfather William Mayne Pepperell sometime prior to 1860. William, a Welsh master mariner sailed to North America regularly from the time he first went to sea. On one of these voyages he met and married Mary Esther and took her back, first to Pembroke then to Cardiff where she died aged 79yrs in 1915. I can find no record of their marriage in the UK BDM's. As for her birth, UK census records says she was born in the following places: 1861- Cant find her or her 2 children 1871 - New Brunswick 1881 - America 1891 - British North America, Can. in brackets 1901 - Canada 1911- Canada Can anyone head me in the right direction to find more information on her birth and marriage One other point - My Mother said her father always referred to her as his French Grandmother, but I feel her name would have been Marie or Maria if there had been a French connection. Many thanks Deirdre Briscombe Dungog, NSW Australia
Maybe I can point you to an area of New Brunswick where you might begin looking. And that is Botsford Parish in Westmorland County. Looking at the Land Grants for the name "Blanch" in the period 1825 to 1855 I found a total of 9; 8 of the 9 were in Botsford County. (see: http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/GovRecs/RS686/Search.aspx?culture=en-CA&C=1 And the name sounds English - Mary Esther - but it is possible that her mother was Acadian and her father Englsih as Westmorland County had (and has) a mixture of French and English inhabitants. Deirdre - In my book Marriage Register Westmorland County NB 1790-1856, there is listed for June 14 1855 William Mayne Pepperell of St. John, St. John Co., married Mary Blanche of Sackville P., West. Co. - page 212 number B-521-3637. Hope that helps. - Marcy At 10:15 PM 12/11/2009, you wrote: >Hi >I am new to the list and hope someone can help me find out more >about my GGGrandmother Mary Esther BLANCH, especially her marriage >and birth details > >Mary, born 1835, married my GGGrandfather William Mayne Pepperell >sometime prior to 1860. And as a PS to my other note, in the 1851 census this family is listed: BLANCH (parish of Botsford) Patrick wid 51 Irish farmer October 1818 Ann d 26 Irish Birth Sophia d 24 Joseph s 19 Mary d 17 Dolly d 13 Elizabeth d 8 John s 6 The children all say "birth". The only other eligible Mary in the parish is age five, so this could be your person. Unfortunately I only have Part 1 of the census but perhaps someone else could check Sackville parish.
