Dorene, Well, it's an interesting "web" this Edgar and Gertrude pair... Here's what I was able to determine, albeit a bit shaky in places: Children of Gertrude and (Norman) Edgar Wright: Howard Franklin Wright, b. 01-Feb-1905, Tilley, Victoria, NB (Father listed as Norman Edgar Wright) Mary Hazel Wright, b. 21-Jun-1906, Tilley, Victoria, NB Laura Pearl Wright, b. 14-Apr-1913, Tilley, Victoria, NB NB Archives also shows a different name for your Allan Freeman... Allan Freeman DEMERCHANT, married in Andover Parish, Victoria Co, on 22-Nov-1928. Similarly, the 1927 marriage of Gertrude Opal McAllister was to John Lyford ROWE, 17-Feb-1927, at Woodstock, Carleton Co, NB. FYI, the one who married Allan Freeman DEMERCHANT in Andover was listed as Gertrude SMITH/McALLISTER. Doesn't clarify which surname was her married and which her maiden, though. If she was born a McAllister, she would have to have married a Mr. Smith, between Wright and Demerchant. Allan F. DeMerchant b. 12-Apr-1886, Bath, Carleton, NB. What I find quite interesting is that on the birth record (Drouin Collection) for Laura Pearl Wright, the informant for the record was a Mrs. Allen D. Merchant. Is this Allan F. DeMerchant's first wife? Does that increase the likelihood that Allan and Norman married the same Gertrude? Norman Wright, only death listed as 22-Jan-1940, Victoria (may or may not be the one who married Gertrude, perhaps the one who m. Alice Maude Flanders in the 1890s?). In 1911, Gertrude (mostlikely the one who married Norman Edgar Wright), found in Perth Parish, Victoria, working as a domestic for Henry Green. She is listed as b. Apr-1887, with her daughter, "Hazel", listed as b. Jul-1910 (off a BIT!). An Edgar Wright, also in Perth, listed as a lodger in home of ?, listed as b. Apr-1882. No Norman listed in Victoria Co. In 1901 Census for Drummond, Victoria Co, NB, however, Norman is listed as Norman Ed. Wright, s/o "Will" and Mary. Here's that family group: Will Wright, b. 17-Jul-1861, NB, Baptist, mill laborer Mary Wright, b. 30-Jun-1857, USA, arr: 1864, Baptist. Norman Ed Wright, b. 30-Apr-1882, NB, son, farm laborer (this is THE Edgar/Norman Wright) Rosa Wright, b. 31-Mar-1885, NB, daughter, farm laborer John Wright, b. 24-May-1887, NB, son, no occ. Found in WWI Attestation Papers, listed b. 30-Apr-1885, born California Settlement, Victoria Co, NB, his mother was living in Limestone, ME (Mary Wright). Problem was, in 1915, he was not listed as married. Did he and Gertrude divorce before 1915? It's surely possible, and WOULD allow for the possibility of her marrying a Mr. Smith, before marrying Allan F. Demerchant, but if so, who WAS the Mr. Smith she must have married in the interim? Was it a Maine marriage? As for whether Gertrude and Gertrude Opal were the same woman... Gertrude Opal McAllister was an illegitimate child, b. Restigouche, NB, on 07-Oct-1905, parents listed as "Master Alf? (unreadable), lumberman, and Helen McAlister. This would mean the one who married John Lyford ROWE is NOT the same one who married Mr. Wright. She was only 22, then, when she married Mr. Rowe. Plus, she was born the same year YOUR Gertrudes first child was born. A LONGSHOT possible would be Marguerite Gertrude McAllsister, who was b. St John, NB (perhaps also illegitimate), on 27-Dec-1891, to Alexander McAllister and Rebecca ?Jones?. She'd have been only 15 when first Wright child born. Really don't think this is your Gertrude, either. In summary, it would appear that Gertrude Opal McAllister is NOT the same woman who married Norman Edgar Wright. IF "guesses" are correct, Norman Edgar was b. 30-Apr-1882, and his Gertrude was b. Apr-1887. That's about as far as I could get given my available resources and my lunch hour. :-) Cheers, Jared "Jed" Handspicker > > I have two marriages for Gertrude McAllister and one for Gertrude Opal > McAllister.
