    3. Hi Michelle, Because of a technical problem, this response will not go to the List. * So, I'm writing directly. I can't answer your question specifically, but I might be able to offer information about my ancestors, and maybe there is a connection. In 1823, a family-group of KERR's and HENDERSON's left Co. Sligo, Ireland, and migrated to Canada. They had all been born there in the 1780-1805 timeframe, and some of them married there. They arrived and settled in the Province of Quebec. I'll mention their names below. The 4 couples and one single lady (who married in Canada) seem to have been all related. Plus, there was a Dawson KERR who initially settled in N.S. or N.B. and then a year or 2 later moved over to the other town in P.Q. Most people assume he was somehow related to them. The 5 couples all had many children and most survived. My gr-gr-grandparents were probably cousins and were born in P.Q. in 1827. When Robert and Elizabeth (HENDERSON) KERR had married and had their children, they moved to a different county in P.Q. There they found more KERR's, including another Robert KERR. If I'm remembering correctly, a DNA test last year showed that they were not related. But, also in that 1820's to 1840's time period, there was another set of KERR's who came and settled in P.Q. I can't think of the name of the town at this second, but it was in the middle of the Province. No one has found a connnection with them, either. All of these families are discussed on the 2 Quebec Lists (and Boards?). And my KERR's settled in Argenteuil County, and there is a List for township they settled in where there is a lot of information. Robert and Elizabeth moved down to Compton County, and then during 1870's and 1880's they and their adult children moved down to Massachusetts. That's all I'll say for now. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) Family: William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON Samuel and Catherine (?) HENDERSON Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR Miss Elizabeth KERR (marr. Levi MILLER) John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR There is an on-line data base for their descendants, and many people research them. None of us can find out who their parents were back in Ireland. (on Lists for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists, including CAN-USA-Migration ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle" <foley256@comcast.net> To: <NEWBRUNSWICK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 08, 2011 2:32 PM Subject: [ NB ] Kerr New Brunswick 1825-1900 > Looking for census for a George Kerr or Carr from 1825 till he died about > 1900 George was born in April 1782 either in Ireland or scotland. 3. Morris/Maurice appears to be the only Flewelling who had a son that went by the name of both Milton & Frederick and born c1851. 3. Just reading some of the other google searches regarding Milton F. Flewelling... one person says that he died 1941 in Lynn, MA - so I'd also check Lynn's City Clerks Office to see if they can do a death record lookup for you. Looking at the 1851 NB Census, there's a Frederick Flewelling, aged 3 mos, on the 1851 Saint John (Kings & Sydney Wards) with parents Morris and Jane Flewelling - same as 1881 Saint John Census showing a Milton Flewelling, aged 30, with Morris Flewelling, widower. 3. On famsearch, it shows a Milton F. Flewelling in the US with the last census he shows up on as being the 1920 Cambridge, MA census. I would contact the Town Clerks Office in Cambridge and ask them to do a lookup for his death record - it should give his parents' names. The 1881 Cdn Census shows a Milton Flewelling b. c1851, mariner, aged 30, enumerated with a Morris Flewelling, aged 60, mariner - no relationship given. There's also this response to the same question by Thomas Murray: http://genforum.genealogy.com/flewellen/messages/158.html I would definitely check with Cambridge. 3. Given that information I don't find any indication of them being in Quebec or New Brunswick, but here is what I DID find on them, as far as I can see... - Jared George Bryn Herdman b: 4 Aug. 1892 Found as George Bruyn Herdman, b. 04-Aug-1892, residing 391 Wash. Ave, Kingston, NY in Jun-1917, born in Kingston, worked as a Mason and was married with wife and child in 1917. Perhaps a first wife? He died in Apr-1968, NY, USA. From the Kingston Daily Freeman, Kingston, NY, evening edition dated 08-May-1968 showing "Home for the Aged" gratefully acknowledging Flowers received in month of April in memory of George B. Herdman. In 1930, at Kingston, Ulster Co, NY, George was a widower, with a son, George A. b. @1916, probably in Kingston, as well. In 1910 US Census for Kingston, NY, George listed in home of his brother, James Herdman, b. @1875, NY, also (parents b. NY, too). He (James) was married to Kathrine, b. @1885, NY. Another brother, Wallie, b. @1885, was in that same household at 35 Taylor Street in Kingston. Hm... 1900 not so good... (initially) There WAS a James Herdman, b. Jun-1827, Ireland, emigrated in 1828, in Kingston, NY in 1900. He was married to Phoebe (around 1853, b. Ireland Oct-1830. He had 12 children, 9 living in 1900. One of her daughters, Lydia, was married to a Bruyn Blanshan. The above James was the father of the James E., below: Listed/transcribed as "Henderson" and underlisted as "Hempelman: Kingston, NY 1900 - residing at 56 ?Lewis? He was s/o James William Herdman and Ann Beggs. Phoebe Noble b. 1830, Ireland, d. 1915, buried with James. (no parents noted) Also buried with them, two daughters: Eliza Ann Herdman, 1853-1904 and Ida Jane Herdman, 1861-1907. Harriet C. Gurth b: Feb 6 1909 Kingston N.Y. In Kingston, 1930, Harriet C. "Gueth" was an "employee", b. NY, showing parents b. Germany. She was working as a waitress in a Sanitarium at 61 Wall Street in Kingston. In 1920, "Hattie" Gurth is residing in the Bronx, NY, daughter of Joseph, b. Austria, Abt. 1872, and Mary b. @1875, Germany. He had arrived in US in 1893, she in 1892. 1910 in Manhattan, NY: Joseph Gindt 39 Austria, Austria, Austria, arr: 1890 Marie Gindt 35 Germany, Germany, Germany, arr: 1892 Elsie Gindt 14 NY, Aus, Ger Joseph Gindt 12 NY, Aus, Ger Hattie Gindt 1 4/12 NY, Aus, Ger Gindt/Girritt/Guith yet in looking at scan, knowing it's Gurth, there's no doubt. It was Joseph's 2nd marriage, about 1902, and Marie's first. Only child by Marie was Hattie. By 1930 Census, Joseph and Mary (just the couple) were residing in Saugerties, Ulster Co, NY. Josef Gurth b. 06-Feb-1871, Austria, was naturalized in NY on 17-Sep-1906. That record also listed his US arrival as 28-Jun-1892. He was a horse shoer, reisiding in 1906 at 413 East 119 St, NYC, NY. In Austrian seen as Gurth with the ".." over the u, so Guerth spelling is likely as well. A Josef Gurth arrived 28-Jun-1893 (not 1892) b. @1871, on the "Havel", at NY Harbor, having departed Breman, Germany. He was a "smith" with destination of NY. This could have been a 2nd crossing for him, but is surely him. Record can be found at www.ellisisland.org A few off possibles for Marie Kull's arrival, but found one closest match as follows: Maria Kull, b. @1875, arrived 27-Aug-1891, German, arriving from Antwerp, Belgium, on the "Noordland". The only readable additional information is that she was a servant. Arrived too early for Ellis Island search, though. Marriage data for Joseph's first marriage, perhaps? Could be just another Joseph, too. Joseph Gerth m, Maria Schwarz, 07-Oct-1893, Manhattan, NY, he was son of Nicolas Gerth and Magdalena Friedman. She was d/o Gottlieb Schwarz and Elisah Faas. The fact that a daughter was Elsie may prove significant. > > > To all Listers, > > I am looking for any info on a Joseph Gurth & a Marie Kull > Abt 18890-1900 In Quebec or New Brunswick area. > > > They are my father in-law g-parents, and the last info I have > on them, was that they were around the Kingston N.Y. area. > The only data i have is ( Below ) > > > George Bryn Herdman > b: 4 Aug. 1892 > > Harriet C.
