They were the only Miltons living in Cumberland County during Harvie's life span. I have never included him as part of the family as I had no record of him. His siblings were : John Wesley, b.1838; Mary Jane, b. 1841; Charlotte, b. 1844; Harriet, b. 1846 and Gilford, b. 1848. The 1861 census has the Milton household under John' s name and it contained 1 married male plus 3 single males. The married male would be Elisha(the father) and the 3 single males were John, Gilford and Harvie. There were 2 married females and 1 single female. The married females were Mary Jane(mother) and Mary Jane (daughter) plus Harriet . In the 1871 census we have Elisha living with his daughter Mary Jane Edgett. The mother and son Gilford are living together but we have no Harvie. I can only assume that being 16 years old he has already found his sea legs and left home. Scott

Ella Mae McPherson, d. 09-Mar-1996, aged 82, at Presque Isle, ME SSDI listed her DOB as 17-Oct-1913, bu showed her last residence as Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, NY (perhaps a nursing home??? no idea). Only close one on Evelyn might be: Evelyn L. Morse of Rockland, ME, m. 15-Nov-1938 to Norman H. Knight of Kennebunk, ME. However, if she was the one who d. 1981 aged 69, then it could not be one and the same b. @1925! IF she was Evelyn Louise (Morse) Knight, perhaps b. 07-Aug-1927? LONGshot, but IF so, living in Topsfield, MA. (978) 887-6021 (not sure how current) ALSO, as there WAS an Evelyn L. KNIGHT married on 11-Oct-1950 of Brookton, ME, to an Alvin O. Young... well, if she married a 2nd time, then the information on current Evelyn Knight is SURELY wrong... Common names!!! *Sigh* If married Young, then could easily be the Evelyn Young who d. 13-Jan-1989, aged 73, at Biddeford, ME... again, a longshot! However, given her age in 1930 Census, that at least looks closer to possible. In the 1960s, Ella and Perley E. McPherson resided at 239 Pearl Street in Bangor, ME. Perley d. 06-Jul-1988, aged 78, at Bangor, ME. Was listed as being of Brewer, ME, and DOB from SSDI shows 10-Aug-1909. Apparently, Perley was s/o Charles M. and Ethel F. McPherson, of Chapman, ME, and came from a very large family, showing 10 children in 1920 Census. INTERESTINGLY, the following from 1911 Canada Census... sort of makes sense for Florence, but what was up with Jacob, if this is an accurate transcription? 1911 Canada Census for Havelock Parish, Albert/Kings Co, NB. 9 63 Morse Lee J. 3. Diane, I have the following information on Jonas Culver. I can supply the sources at your request. Bob Dunfield Lot 40, 200 acres, Jonas Culver Sr., June 29, 1786: Jonas Culver Sr., along with his son, Jonas Jr. (see Lot 39), served with the 1st. New Jersey Volunteers during the Revolution. Apparently, both came to Parr Town with other relatives (John Ross, Thomas Brannon, John Turner and John Whiteneck) with the fall fleet. Jonas Sr. first received Parr Town Lot 958 in 1784, but also received Salmon River Lot 40 in the Furnie allotment of 1786. He probably did not occupy this latter lot until after 1790 since his name does not appear on the parish assessment of that year. He does, however, appear on the assessment of 1800. However, he sold part of the lot to Peter Stover around 1790; other owners were Captain Hutchinson (1792), James Wallace (1795), and then Samuel Freeze (1778-1844) c1801. Jonas was deceased by September, 1818, and administrators of his will - one of whom was Peter Snider "of Saint John" - disposed of his former Parr Town lot.686 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane McLeod" <mcleo01@shaw.ca> To: <newbrunswick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 3:35 AM Subject: [ NB ] Salmon River (Sussex) > Happy new year, list! 3. Thanks to Bill, Lloyd, Robert and John for their assistance in identifying the Salmon River in the Sussex area. I'm going with John's advice regarding the location of Jonas Culver's land grant because other research confirms the proximity to the Kennebecasis River. Bit by bit, maybe I'll get the geography of the area firmly implanted in my brain... Thanks again, guys! Di On 2 Jan 2007 at 11:29, John Elliott wrote: > Hi Diane, > > Happy New Year! 3. Hi Diane, Happy New Year! The term Salmon River was once applied to the upper portion of the Kennebecasis River - probably upstream from about where the Smith Creek enters. The only current reference to that name so far as I know is that the old covered bridge which is preserved beside Route 890 just beyond what is locally known as Four Corners (probably little over a mile from the Sussex town limits) is known unofficially as the Salmon River Bridge. I am quite sure the reference to Jonas Culver's grant on the Salmon River is the same one listed officially as being on the Kennebecasis River (i.e. at Penobsquis). > -----Original Message----- > From: newbrunswick-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:newbrunswick-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Diane McLeod > Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 3:35 AM > To: newbrunswick@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ NB ] Salmon River (Sussex) > > > Happy new year, list! 3. The town of Salmon River disappeared in 1926 when the sawmill closed down. Many of the homes were dismantled and floated to new locations, some being in New England. At the time, it consisted of 26 buildings. A painting of it is at the Quaco Museum in St. Martins. Today, the only building there is the new one that is the Vistors Centre for the Fundy Trail. 3. Hi Diane, Happy New Year. My 1972 gazetteer of NB lists no Salmon whatever "in" Sussex Parish. It does list a Salmon Creek in Rothesay and another in Chipman Parishes. I'm wondering if your reference has to do with a location somewhere along the Shepody Road. Little Salmon River is at the east end of St. Martins Parish and is a bit west of Alma. But "Salmon River" (called th Big Salmon River locally to distinguish it from the Little Salmon) empties into the Bay of Fundy east of the village of St. Martins. I don't know where its headwater is, but it probably goes far enough up to meet the Old Shepody Road. Both of these rivers are east of Sussex Parish. Little Salmon River is too far east to be associated with Sussex & I think Big Salmon runs NE - away from Sussex, unless it doubles back in its upper reaches. The Rothesay reference may be what uou are looking for, paddle optional. Hope this helps, Bill Diane McLeod wrote: > Happy new year, list! 3. Teleconference Seminar Tuesday January 2 at 9 PM EST ===================================================== Finding Mariners, Seafaring Ancestors, Ships and Maritime News with GenealogyBank.com Click here to Register http://ancestralmanor.com/?tabid=127 Jonathan Galli presents this case study as just one example of how to document elusive ancestors for whom the traditional sources are sparse or non-existent. Mariners are particularly problematic to track. Jonathan had been able to find some vital record and probate information for his O'Cain family that immigrated to Connecticut "from the Irish nation" in the 18th century, but the original immigrant's grandson was only found in the 1790 census and then seemed to disappear. With the advent of the internet, Jonathan found other resources that showed that Joseph became a sea captain and was instrumental in altering the entire Pacific coast trade. Through GenealogyBank.com resources, Jonathan was able to track this ancestor and discover many details of this man's life. This particular example, demonstrates the wealth of material at GenealogyBank.com, and illustrates how to customize search techniques and follow the clues to create new searches that leverage the exceptional job that GenealogyBank.com has done in digitizing and indexing antiquarian documents. You must pre-register to receive the call in phone number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) and PDF handouts. Click here to Register http://ancestralmanor.com/?tabid=127 The format is easy to follow. Each teleconference session begins with the "housekeeping": introducing our experts and topics. Then all registrants will be muted while our experts provide a short segment of the teleconference topic. After each segment, a Q&A session will be opened up where everyone can ask questions and have a conversation about their particular interests with our expert. 3. Thank you for your quick reply and the additional information. "Paris Greens" is what I have heard it called. It was also used as rat poison and on early wallpaper backing. The first time I heard of it, it was used in a suicide. I have no idea whether this could have applied to Nathan. It could have been accidental.
