Does anyone know if there exsists transcripts to the St. Martins area Cemeteries other than the McCumber Hill Cemetery that is registered on the NB website? Looking for missing family members names, bpt. dates & burial places of William & Phoebe ( nee Melvin) Sharp family. William Sharp had the land grant with David Melvin at the corner of RR# 111 and the road in Porter Road. Phoebe Sharp was buried Fernhill 1855 but I have not found William's date of death or place of burial. There is mention of a child female in the grant petition . I have other children as John, (Henry,he still has a ? as to proof he was a son ),James, Isaac & Duncan. No name for the female child on the petition and also there is a large gap between her and brother John of at least 7 yrs. John resided 175 Wentworth Street and this was one of the homes destroyed in the Great Fire. He was partner in the building and contractor firm Cassidy and Sharp, Saint John. Help appreciated. Pat

Hi Pat, Your logic is good, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree. I think the William Sharpe (with an e) family moved into Saint John in the late 1840s. I'm distantly related to his wife, Phoebe Melvin. William was "maybe" an immigrant, but "maybe" lived in NS before going to St. Martins, NB. Because they moved "to town," I would expect William died and is buried somewhere in Saint John. My list of children for William & Phoebe agrees with yours, incl. Henry. There are two Church of the Ascension Anglican Churches (each with a graveyard) in Kings County - one at Apohaqui and the other at Lower Norton, just outside Hampton. The Rural Cemtery Extension is located on Woodstock Rd. in Fredericton. Wesley Methodist may be a specific name or it may be simply a denominational reference, as the Methodist Church was often referred to as the Wesleyan Methodist Church. As of 1925, the Methodist Church in Canada joined most of the Prebyterians and the Congregationalists to form the United Church of Canada, so it is unlikely that a cemetery would be known as a Methodist cemetery today unless it was an old one which had been out of use for many years. The Gagetown one is likely the Gagetown United Church Cemetery (likely formerly Methodist), which I believe is located in the Village of Gagetown. Further to the reunion in June 2008 in Remsheg (Wallace), N.S. I have an old book published by the Government of Nova Scotia, year of publication not mentioned, but in regards to Wallace, N.S. it has the following, also note the spelling of Remsheg. On Highway Route 6 "Sunrise Trail" (Amherst to New Glasgow). 41 miles from Amherst. Station on the Oxford Junction branch of the Canadain National Railway. WALLACE Wallace with its magnificent outlook over the blue waters of the Northumberland Strait, has a truly delightful situation. The district is noted for the valuable sandstone present tdhere in large quantities. This stone which is olive or greenish-grey and blue in colour has been quarried for more than one hundred years and has been used for many buildings in Quebec, Ontario and the Maritime Provinces. The beautiful Province House at Halifax was build of this material. The new Parliament Buildings and the Victoria Museum at Ottawa were also build partly of this sandstone and trimmed with the blue variety which lends itself well to carved work. The stone has also been shipped to New York, Boston and providence. Shipping facilities are good both by water and rail. Wallace was settled by Loyalists from the old Colony of New York who in 1784 soiugfh refuge at this place after the Revolution. In 1810 Alexander Stewart, for many years representative of Cumberland County in the Legislature, had the original name "RAMSHAG" changed to Wallace, in honour of Hon.Michael Wallace, Provincial Treasurer.
