The 1911 Woodstock census has a Merton McLean (Apr 1881) with wife Vera (Mar 1882). What was Vera's maiden name? Parents? Thank you, Bill

I received an email tonight which announced the Burke's Peerage site. You get to search for a day for a little over $30 CN. Whoopee!!! It just further points out how lucky we are to have the PANB that offers SO MUCH for free online. The latest offering is Danny Johnson's Newspaper Vital Stats which I hope you will send what you can to support -see the PANB site for an address. I feel that the PANB is second to none in the world for offering so much data for free to us genealogists. It seems generally as soon as you cross the pond, the wallet must come out, unless it is a private individual's site. Bless our PANB staff. Suzanne Carter (formerly Lisson)
To clarify, yes, indeed, it was "Maine". At that time, it was part of Massachusetts, so perhaps the spelling had not yet been widely disseminated, and it was spelled (pretty much) phonetically. Thanks for your inputs. That would be St. Paul's Anglican Church at Whitehead and Gordon Miller has generously placed them online at http://gkmiller.tripod.com/Churches/StPauls.htm I might add that this is the closest point of land to the island and therefore owners of present day "camps" (cottages) cross there. Thanks Suzanne, I had a look - no Sharps or DeLongs. I did find a man in the military. His gravestone reads "General Service." I also found a couple of "maybes" in otehr families. Bill, The Church of the Ascension is located on the Norton Shore Rd in Hampton NB. This location is on the road to Kingston. My neighbor is from Kingston, though, and I will give her a call to ask which cemetery would have been used by the habitants of Long Island, and I'll get back to you. Around 1900, where would people on Long Island, Kings Co. (the one above Saint John in KIngston Parish, not Long Island, Hampstead), be buried? I'm looking for Sharps (Anglican & Baptist) and DeLong (Baptist). The PANB website doesn't appear to have a cemetery that might suit, although I don't know where the Church of the Assension is located. Thanks, Bill

Rose, Though I can not answer definitively, I know of at least one (once thought to be in MY lines) couple from that timeframe/location, where the wife was only 15 at time of marriage (whether it required consent or not, of that I'm not sure). The couple did live with HIS parents for a couple of years after they were married, and he was 11 years her senior... Would SEEM either that her parents were disinterested, or may not have been living... never was able to locate her ancestry. She wasn't from England, either, but from "Main". :-) Jared > Does anyone know what the age of consent is for a Roman Catholic marriage > in > the early 1800s in NB? > > Rose Staples UE > 1080 Route 605 > Maple Ridge NB > E6E 1W6 > roses@nbnet.nb.ca > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NEWBRUNSWICK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ------------------------ Jared "Jed" Handspicker jedh@jedh.com
