Cheryl... who exactly are you searching for? The 1851 has quite a few parishes missing in different counties. Does anyone know if the surname "Gallishan" evolved into "Gullison"? I have heard that this is the case but can't find an individual example of this having happened for verification. Cheryl
A quick search on famsearch shows Gallishan for New Brunswick, Massachusetts, etc.; Galashan for Scotland. For Gullisan, it shows Galisan or Gullison, Gullishon for places i.e. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Massachusetts. A lot of names were spelt however the census taker or clergyman deemed it so because so many were illiterate. Dear Friends, I am from the U.S. but I was wondering if you might want to try the Baptist Convention/Conference Offices for your province. Sometimes they have a leg up on where records may be found. I am a United Methodist clergyperson and I know that there are logs or registers of baptisms, marriages and funerals because most denominations want statistics. There is often a double set of these records -- one that remains at the church and another that is in the care of a trusted layperson. This is only a suggestion and not a lead pipe cinch solution for finding Baptist records. Peace, Rev. Barbara J. Dear S., Thanks for the info you sent. Obviously, I can't find anything on the Manchesters because they all beat feet out of New Brunswick! Thanks for the directions! Lisa Z
Hi Robin, This is one page I refer to: http://hawkshome.net/misc_items/events/epidemic_timeline.htm I find "timelines" are helpful for finding out about other places / countries, etc. And also for things like epidemics. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: My ancestors, "Calvin" and Mary (WILKINS) KIDDER, lost 3 of their children ~1860. Their 2nd, son, Charles, shortly after his marriage, and then his new wife shortly after that. And their daughter, Mary Ann, at Age 16. I'm guessing they "caught" the Flu. (Always looking for the place of death, and exact date, of their 1st son, John KIDDER. The 1881 census has his family in Deer Island, NB. In 1887, he was reported to have "drowned at sea." Nothing else is known. Between then and 1899, his widow and youngest children moved to Gouldsboro, ME.) (Just a reminder that J. Calvin KIDDER was born in N.B. in Jan. 1799 - one week before his father was killed in a boating accident.)
