Hi everyone I am looking for a death date for a George Edward Wilson born August 5, 1913 and died in 1975. His wife was Nancy Finn who died in 2004. He is buried in Ocean View Cemetery in Saint John. I would like to find a death notice, but I live in Ontario and don't have access to the New Brunswick newspapers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wendy Main Ontario.

Betty, You should check out all there is on the GREENLAW family at: http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-G-2006.pdf Amongst the several mentioned is Charles Greenlaw, b. @1743, Scotland, he died in 1811. He was a son of William and Jane you already mentioned. The reason I believe Charles is Mercy's father, is based on the following... On 10-Dec-1767, Charles married Mrs. Mercy (nee Hawthorne) Jameson of St. George, Lincoln Co, ME. Their chidlren are listed as Charles, Solomon, Martha, Mary, and Jedediah GREENLAW. Given that Mercy is the mother's name, and Mary is one of the daughters, I'd not be surprised she is the one called Mercy. The only further info in these files is that Solomon married Margaret Cookson. Solomon said to have been born @1781, so his siblings would have been born within the 1770s to 1780s, most likely. That would fit with your Mercy. Just a few thoughts... hope they help... Hi again, To get back to the name, in general, the researchers on the GREENLAW Board are currently discussing whether the "GREENLAW Family Association" is still an official group. Stephen Snell started it in 2004, and he helped to arrange the "250th Anniversary of the arrival of the GREENLAW arrival in Maine" in 2003. There was supposed to be a "255th" in New Brunswick in 2008. However, it was Jan. 2008 when I accidentally found out that Mr. Snell had "died suddenly." And that is when his web site stopped being updated, and that is when the "research CD's" he had created stopped being available. However, the active discussion on the GREENLAW Board has information coming out - slowly. The Association is still an official group and there are still a few members, but none are officers and there are no meetings. I read that some attended the "Highland Games" last year. Speaking of the "Highland Games," I looked them up yesterday, and found out they are coming up shortly. http://highlandgames.ca/hg/news.html And, the "Highland Games" in Maine will be going on next month: http://www.mainehighlandgames.org/ In summary, researchers are currently trying to find out who is currently in charge of Mr. Snell's GREENLAW research papers. They could be at a college or university in VA. By the way, one researcher says that one branch of the family left the Maine / New Brunswick area and moved to Virginia. And she would like to know why. (Are there other families which left this area and moved to Virginia (US)? Was it because they had relatives there ~1800? Or, was it because of "the weather conditions?" Or, was it because they could get better land in VA?) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (FYI: There is information in the archives of the Lists about the 2nd marriage for the widow, Mrs. Mercy (GREENLAW) KIDDER. She remarried to Ambrose BATES and had many children with him. Her first child was Joseph "Calvin" KIDDER (1799-1891), and he was born in New Brunswick - one week - before his father "died at sea." "Calvin" seems to have grown up in New Brunswick, and lived there maybe into his 30's. He was nearly killed in the Great Mirimichi Fire. But he survived and married near Amity, ME, in 1834 to Mary WILKINS. I am descended from this couple, and I am descended from Mary's brother, George Freeman WILKINS and his wife, Mary NEAL. Joseph KIDDER married his cousin, Clarissa WILKINS, in Maine in 1869.)
Hello, I have just checked the archives of this List, and, not including my postings, the GREENLAW surname, in general, has not been discussed for 3-5 years. So, I thought I would bring the name up for discussion. And, after looking through the archives of the GREENLAW Message Boards yesterday, I put my thoughts together. The "concrete-block wall" ancestor for many people is Mercy GREENLAW, who was born in "Maine" between 1775 and 1780. No one can figure out who her parents were. I checked the US 1790 census, and I found William in Lincoln Co., ME, William in Hancock Co., ME, and John, in Cumberland Co., ME. But "somehow" Mercy met Calvin KIDDER ~1797, probably in New Brunswick. According to other researchers posting on the Boards, William and Jane GREENLAW arrived in "Maine" in 1753 and settled in Deer Isle, ME (Hancock Co.). And they had 6-7 sons with them, with names, James, William, Jonathan, Ebenezer, Charles, Alexander, and ____. And, when New Brunswick was annexing off of Nova Scotia in 1784, several of the sons moved over to Canada. Some were Loyalists (?). I'm thinking this week that Mercy GREENLAW was born in Maine ~1780 and might have been a daughter of any of the sons. But, if Mercy was to meet Calvin ~1797, she was probably a daughter of one of the sons who had moved to New Brunswick. Of these sons, if I'm remembering correctly, Charles and Mercy GREENLAW had the daughter, Mary, who married Nathaniel FENLASON (sp?), and did not have a daughter, Mercy. The other Loyalists, according to what I've been reading on-line were: Jonathan/John, Ebenezer, and Alexander, so Mercy could have been part of their families. (I read that some members of these families did return to Deer Isle, ME.) Calvin KIDDER probably moved around New Brunswick, one way or another. No one knows about his life between 1784 and ~1798. And, in Feb. 1799, he was on a "mailboat" which had left Schoodic and was heading to St. Andrews. That boat overturned and all 5 men on the boat died. (See archives for more information.) So, he could have met Mercy in St. Stephen or St. Andrews. I'll continue my thoughts in a second posting. According to the US Census for 1860, Anne MERRILL was born ca 1804 in ³New Brunswick.² Her last name ³may have been² BEANAN. She married James MERRILL and moved to Cary, Aroostook, Maine. Looking for any with the surname BEANAN to try and make a connection. The ³BEANAN² comes from an ³un-sourced² file at LDS. That same 1860 census states that James MERRILL was also born ³New Brunswick,² but I have yet to place him in NB or find his ancestry. Any hints greatly appreciated. Hi List, I'm wondering if anyone is researching the METCALF line- more specifically on this line. Vital Stats in NB Newspapers shows the marriage of a Chesley METCALF of Moncton to an Elizabeth TIDD of Irishtown. I am wondering who the Elizabeth TIDD may have been? Chesley METCALF, age 12, is on the 1881 Moncton census and then it looks like him on the 1920 Massachusetts Census recorded as a Widower. Shirley
I posted to the list last night after 10 p.m., but have yet to see the posting. jim
Hi List, I have the newspaper clip on the 13 Jul 1846 Saint John marriage of Joseph CRABB and Sarah GIGGEY but am wanting to see if it is also in the Registers for Saint John marriages. In particular, I'm looking for the Witnesses. Appreciate it... Shirley
8 Jan 1821, Cornelius ACKERMAN witnessed the will of William BELL in Parish of Northampton, York Co. so maybe handy there. Dear Janet, Victoria Corner was a town or settlement in the Parish of Wakefield, thus the obit reading Victoria, Wakfield. I have "Southern Carleton County Cemeteries," by R. Wallace Hale I don't know if all Wakefield cemeteries are included, but he did seem to do a thorough job on the Parish. The Victoria Corner Cemetery is also included in the book, but there is no listing for the Ackerman's in the book. They may have been buried elsewhere, but more likely the graves were lost. Some families didn't have the money to erect a monument, and fires and such would often destroy the records the cemetery kept, as well. If there ever was a monument, it could have been lost or destroyed. It seems to me that the Ackerman family is fairly well researched. If there was a grave, someone would probably have found it by now. Best of luck, Lisa Z
I am still working on the above families and will be in Fredericton in about week to do some research . Specifically I am researching the families of Loyalists Cornelius Ackerman and Fanny Lawrence ( father Richard) Vanderbilt , and Matthew and Mary Phillips. One question I have is where Cornelius and Fanny are buried. 1. Fanny died ; Daniel F Johnson : Volume 2 Number 1418 Date : September 19, 1822 County : Saint John Place : Saint John Newspaper : City Gazette d. 6th inst., Fredericton, Frances w/o Cornelius ACKERMAN, age 64. NBRG 2. Cornelius died ; Daniel F Johnson : Volume 11 Number 1695 Date : December 30, 1846 County : York Place : Fredericton Newspaper : The Head Quarters d. Victoria, Wakefield (Carleton Co.) 21st inst., Cornealius AKERMAN, age 98. (cross reference: ACKERMAN) Does anyone have a suggestion about possible cemeteries in Victoria Corner? Why would the death place be listed as Victoria, Wakefield? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated . Thanks Janet
Hi List, I'm looking for the marriage record of John Sylvester TRITES & Sarah Ann (Williams?). They married c1859 Westmorland Co. Shirley
Thank you. I have seen those derivations and I'm curious because those descendents of the pre-loyalists seem to have disappeared by the 1851 census. There are, however, many "Gullisons". Interesting!
