Diane, According to my records, James C. Churchill was the son of Lemuel Churchill and his first wife, Lois Foster. Lois was born in Oromocto on Apr 21, 1783 to Benen Foster & Deborah Kinney. Besides James, they also had Chloe Ann, Amos & Stephen before Lois died in 1811. Stephen drowned young in the Saint John River, Amos went to the US, and Chloe married George Rex Boyer. Curiously, Lemuel Churchill had a sister names Jersuha born in Yarmouth in 1787, but her mother was Elizabeth Ryder, not Betty Foster. Benen Foster & Deborah Kinney are my direct ancestors through their daughter Lydia, who married Ardvardus Shaw. Best of luck, Lisa Z
I have not been able to locate any further information on Jerusha Churchill's parents... In 1861 and 1871 census records she is listed as born in NB. She resided with her daughter's family , Lucinda Wilkins Earl, in 1861 Middleton, Ontario... in 1871 she resided with another daughter, Hannah Wilkins Joslyn in Dereham, Oxford South, Ontario...age 84 yrs b. NB..... she was listed as Jerusha Wilkinson in error, should be Wilkins. I have not found where Jerusha [Gerusha] [Josie] Churchill Wilkins died or is buried. So for the Churchill side of the line... its unclear as to her father's name who married Betty Foster..... I would assume she knew her mothers name but perhaps the transcription was poor and it was transcribed incorrectly. Foster however is what was given to me. We belive the children of Thomas Wilkins and Jerusha Churchill as follows: [ and that there could very well be other children] 1. Jonathan Wilkins b. 1806 Upper Canada m. Rhoda Wrightman & Jane McCurdy children: Jerusha, Minerva, Olive, Mary, Nathaniel, Robert Crawford, Amanda 2. Susan Wilkins b. 1808 Long Island NY m. Alpheus Zufelt Children: John, Harriet, Lucinda, Loyal, Catherine, Thomas, Jane, Mary, Isaiah, Joseph, Levi, George, Henry, & James 3.Lucinda Wilkins b. 1810 Upper Canada or Long Island NY m. John Earle .. childern: Nathaniel Churchill Earl, barzillai Miles Earl, Franklin Washington Earl, Wellington E Earl, Lucy Earl. 4. Hannah Wilkins b. abt 1819 Upper Canada m John Joslyn children: Jerusha, George, Elijah, Charlton, Charles, John H., Emma, Francis,
Hi Pat. I'm afraid that I can't respond directly to your query but am wondering if your Gerusha/Jerusha Churchill is related in any way to James C. Churchill (b. 18 Feb 1805, Fredericton, York Co). He married Ruth Ann (Shaw) Fowler on 16 Jun 1847 in Carleton Co. and they had a son named Byron (b. Boston, MA, date unknown). James C. Churchill's father was Lemuel Churchill (b. 20 Feb 1777, place unknown). I have no information about his mother. Could there be a connection? Our Thomas WILKINS & Jerusha CHURCHILL married in York County NB 3 Oct 1804. Thomas is reportedly the son of George WILKINS & grandson of Peter WILKINS. Jerusha is reportedly the daughter of a seaman and of Betty FOSTER CHURCHILL. The marriage record is recorded in York County General Sessions minute book as follows: "I certify that Thomas WILKINS of the Parish of Kingsclear was by me married to Gerusha CHURCHILL of the same place on the third day of October one thousand eight hundred and four by Virtue of a licence obtained from the Hon. Gabriel Ludlow President of His Majesty's Council dated the second day of October one thousand Eight hundred and four", Samuel Clopper, Justice of the Peace. According to 1st person oral history ... a daughter, Hannah WILKINS JOSLY states that her mother was also called Josie..... she is recorded as Jerusha in the census records however. Hannah states that Jerusha (Josie) CHURCHILL'S father was an English sailor who settled in New Brunswick and married Betty FOSTER , an American lady of Boston. She further states that Thomas WILKINSwas born 1782 in Long Island, he was the son of George WILKINS and the grandson of Peter WILKINS. Peter WILKINS lost his first wife and 2 children when they were killed by the indians in the state of Georgia. Peter's 2nd wife was the mother of George...her name is not give. Other children born to Thomas WILKINS & Jerusha CHURCHILL: Lucinda Jonathan Susan Hannah Has anyone come across this family? Thank you so much. Pat Holling La Center, WA

Hello! The Kings County Historical & Archival Society, Inc., would like to let your members know about a Heritage Day we are planning for Saturday, August 22nd, 2009, at the Baptist Church Hall, Route 124, Hatfield Point, Kings County, N.B. There will be no admission for this event, and all are welcome. Displays will be set up in the church hall. A genealogy workshop will start at noon. From 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. an antiques appraisal of your treasures will take place on a first come first serve basis. To reserve your spot, please phone the Kings County Museum at (506) 832-6009, or email: [email protected] At 4:30 p.m. there will be an auction of the remaining items from the former Hatfield Point Community Hall. Included in the auction will be several century-old benches from the Original Imperial Order of Foresters Hall. At 5 p.m. bring a picnic lunch, and perhaps a bit extra to share. Tea, water and chairs (inside and outside) will be available. You could bring a blanket or chairs and find a special spot for a picnic! Starting at 6:30 p.m. at the main gate of the nearby Bayview Cemetery, people will gather to hear stories from the cemetery. For several years the Society has sponsored a Ghost Walk with participating ghosts telling their stories. This year we invite anyone who has a story to tell to take part. All it takes is the reading of a script that starts with "I am ........", and the participants are to stand by the particular monument, perhaps with some costume to reflect the time! As a fundraiser to help with expenses, tickets on one of the old hall benches will be on sale at $5.00 each. Please be generous with your support as the Kings County Museum depends upon fundraising to cover part of the annual budget. The winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the day. Various parts of Heritage Day will be recorded and edited to a DVD. To receive a copy leave your name, address and $20.00 at the Kings County Museum display. The DVD will be mailed when it is completed. We look forward to seeing you at our Heritage Day event. Nancy Meech

Hello, Just a reminder that there are several web sites which discuss the people in the Cape Ann Association. Just Googling that term will find them, including this one: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbstdavi/capeann.html A reminder is that my ancestor, Calvin KIDDER, from New Ipswich and Temple, NH, reportedly traveled with the families from New Boston, NH, when they left for (then) Nova Scotia in 1783. He was ~18, and someone has suggested that he might have been following a girlfriend. He has never been labeled as a Loyalist or Sympathizer. No one really knows how Calvin spent the next 15 years. He was reportedly in New Brunswick from ~1784 and until his untimely death in Feb. 1799. But, he is not in any of the lists of men in the web sites discussing the Cape Ann Assoc. My only thought is that he, relatively young, just lived with the families he traveled with and never got land in his own name. He seems to have remained close to the HITCHINGS and CHRISTIE families because men from those families helped out when he "died at sea." Calvin had finally married in July 1798 to Mercy GREENLAW. And, they had a child in Jan. 1799. One week later Calvin and 4 other men were in a mailboat which was in the Bay, and the boat overturned. All 5 men died. Just this summer it has occurred to me that Calvin might have been on his way to St. Andrews to -- announce the birth of his son ! (No one knows who Mercy's parents were, but one guess is that she was part of the GREENLAW families which had left Deer Island, Maine, and moved to New Brunswick.) The widow, Mrs. Mercy KIDDER, remarried about a year later to Ambrose BATES, and they had 10 children. I'm told the family, including Mercy's first son, Joseph "Calvin" KIDDER (aka Calvin KIDDER), lived in St. Stephen. After Mercy lost her 2nd husband she moved to Calais. Son, Calvin, moved also as in 1834 he married near Amity, ME. (It's possible that both the father, Calvin, and the son, Calvin, spent a lot of time in both Maine and New Brunswick. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (Lots of information in the archives of the Maine Lists, going back several years.)

If you check the following website you will find a Reuben Smith. Unfortunately it is not the one you are looking for as he was born in 1819. http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-S-2006.pdf However, there are a lot of Smith families in this list of "First Families" and in the reference notes for the various families you may find a lead.
