Gerry will be missed by many of us who were in touch with him about our ancestors and descendants in Albert County, NB. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sheila Hannah To: Betty Lumsden Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 10:31 AM Subject: FW: Gerry -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gerard "Gerry" Milton Fullerton 1937-2009 Gerard "Gerry" Milton Fullerton, 72, of Hillsborough passed away suddenly on August 24th, 2009 at the Moncton Hospital. He attended the Albert Mines Baptist Church. Gerry was the Provincial Grand Master of the Orange Lodge and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 32, Hillsborough. He was very interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching the Fullerton family. He loved nature and enjoyed watching all kinds of animals. Above all things he loved spending time with his family, he will be remembered for his great sense of humour. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother who will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Linda (Hayes) Fullerton; his son, Deryk Albert Fullerton of Gatineau, Quebec; daughters, Teryl Lee Fullerton (Vernon Hoar) of Riverview, Shanna Lynn Fullerton (Jordan Hewins) of Lemonville, Ontario and special granddaughter, Zaikra Caroline Fullerton whom he and Linda lovingly raised; his cherished grandchildren, Carleen Jessie Fullerton, Kashlyn Dea Fullerton, Shayla Jean Fullerton; sisters, Freda Murphy and Greta Fullerton both of Albert Mines, Audrey Merrill of Riverview and Patricia Brown (Allison) of Moncton; brother, Terry Fullerton (Betty) of Riverview. He will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Albert Mines Baptist Church, Albert Mines on Thursday, August 27th, 2009 at 2:00pm with Rev Jack Allen officiating. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends in the church for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. Interment will be held in the Green Hill Cemetery, Edgett's Landing on Friday, August 28th at 1:00pm all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you give some time to help tend to your local cemetery or support them with a donation in Gerry's memory. It was very important for Gerry due to the fact of his interest in genealogy that we take care of our cemeteries. MC1 is the manuscript files and contain mostly files made up of mixed items - many gifts from patrons of their research, or transcriptions, etc. Most of them are covered by Robert Fellows compilation of family files at PANB, which I believe is on the net somewhere, but I can't remember where right now. I'm sure someone on the list has the link. Unfortunately in 1819, there were no official birth records. Your only source would be church baptism records or the Family Bible, both of which would likely not list the place of birth. If you haven't already, you should search for their burial records which sometimes do list birth information. Carol - WorldConnect has a bit of information on Thomas R. Parsons - no parents, though. It was a David James who submitted the information and his email is also online. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jamesdm49&id=I44370 It's also sourced for marriage, & Thomas's death (09 Sep 1871), etc. which is always a plus. Also, it is showing the last census Mary Jane was on which was the 1880. It would be worth contacting the Town Clerk's Office for her death record - they're always very helpful. It just might give parents' names. And I would do the same for Thomas even though it's earlier. Both 1860 & 1870 show that they were both born in Maine... so it does look like Maine and not New Brunswick as places of birth. For years, I have hunted (without success) for the parentage of my 2nd ggparents who were married and lived in East Machias, Maine. Because of the land issue between Maine and New Brunswick in that timeframe, I have wondered if it is possible that they were actually born in New Brunswick. The 1850 U.S. census records show a birthplace of Maine, but who knows how they may have responded to a census taker regarding a birth place in 1819 and one between 1822-1824. Is there an online resource for birth records in New Brunswick for that period of time? I am looking for a Thomas R. Parsons, b. 1819 and a Mary Jane Shean or Shane, b. 1822-1824. Thomas' brother may have been a John K. Parsons,b.abt.1818. Thank you for your help, Carol in Arizona

You might want to try the Sessional Papers of Parliament after 1876 (I think that's when Dorchester opened) especially the reports of the auditor general, who issued occasional lengthy and detailed personnel lists for various federal departments like the post office and Intercolonial Railway. The Sessional Papers lasted until 1925-26 and "hard" copies may be available through your local university library (I use the Killam Library at Dalhousie.) Is there anyone I can contact that has information concerning people who acted as prison guards at Dorchester Penitentiary? The surname of the family I'm interested is McDougall. These McDougalls are Nova Scotian in origin. Although I don't know when they began their work there, I know that their Nova Scotian relatives were visiting them in Dorchester as late as 1958 and that they were prison guards who supervised a Halifax jail before they went to Dorchester. One of the persons I am looking for was named "John" whose wife was called "Jane" on their marriage license. Two of their children were called James and Sarah(Sara, Sadie). I'm hoping that there is someone out there who has an interest in the history of the Penitentiary and has been collecting information about the people involved. That being said, I welcome any leads. Hi Pat, I can't help you with your research, but I can mention that one of my ancestors was arrived in York Co. ~1850, and he was a George WILKINS. (He was George Freeman WILKINS, and his oldest son became known as "Freeman" WILKINS.) George and Mary (NEAL) WILKINS came from Aroostook Co., ME. After Mary's passing ~1870?, George and some of his children returned to Maine. Some of the children remained in York Co. My George was reportedly the youngest of 5 surviving children who lived in Unity, ME, until they moved to Amity, ME ~1831. Their father was Samuel WILKINS, and he is one of my "concrete-block walls." No one knows who his parents were. My "educated guess" is that they were William and Sarah (BANCROFT) WILKINS who had moved from MA to "Maine" around the time of Samuel's birth ~1780. (One note is that I think I saw the WILKINS name recently when I looked at web sites about St. David's first years. I just checked and it was Andrew.) http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbstdavi/anngrantalpha.html Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (I heard that there was an O'NEAL couple in York Co. in 1850's when my George WILKINS moved there, but I also heard that his wife was a NEAL from New Brunswick and there are records showing that.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Holling" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 2:33 PM Subject: [ NB ] WILKINS/ CHURCHILL m 1804 York County NB Our Thomas WILKINS & Jerusha CHURCHILL married in York County NB 3 Oct 1804. Thomas is reportedly the son of George WILKINS & grandson of Peter WILKINS. Jerusha is reportedly the daughter of a seaman and of Betty FOSTER CHURCHILL. Thank you so much. Pat Holling La Center, WA
Hi Pat, With such an early date in New Brunswick, it sounds like they could have been Loyalists. I have not found a Betty FOSTER but I found the following family with "similar" names and places. First Families of New Brunswick. http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-C-2006.pdf What's also interesting this record is that it says that a couple of Jerusha's brothers went to Ontario. * CHURCHILL: Nathaniel Churchill Sr*. born 29 Mar 1748 at Yarmouth, NS, died 8 Dec 1820 at Fredericton, s/o *Lemuel Churchill *and *Lydia Sylvester* : m. (1st) 24 Dec 1770 *Elizabeth Rider*, m. (2nd) 20 Nov 1800 *Eleanor Metcalf*, m. (3rd) 6 Jan 1814 *Elizabeth Green*: settled at Gagetown, Queens County: Children of first wife: 1) *Betsey Churchill *b. 1 Nov 1771: 2) *Nathaniel Churchill Jr. *m. *Eunice Kinney*: 2) *Lemuel Churchill *b. 22 Mar 1776: went to Ontario in 1831 with brother: 3) *Lydia Churchill *born 7 Sep 1778: 4) *Bartlett Churchill *born 7 Jan 1781: 5) *Hannah Churchill *born 14 Feb 1783: 6) *Stephen Churchill *born 22 Dec 1785: 7) *Jerusha Churchill *born 23 Apr 1787: 8) *Benjamin Churchill *born 4 Feb 1790 in Yarmouth, NS, died 29 Dec 1871, m. 15 Jul 1813 at Kingsclear, *Elizabeth Everett *b. 16 Feb 1793 at Kingsclear, York County, d. 2 Aug 1879, d/o *Thomas Everett *and *Mary Wiggins *: settled at Jacksontown in Wakefield Parish, Carleton County: they had issue: 9) *Mary Churchill *born 25 May 1793: Children of third wife: 10) *Matilda Churchill *born 17 Dec 1814, married *Mr. Estey*: 11) *Fanny Churchill *b. 3 May 1816, married *Mr. Kitchen*: 12*) John Mulbury Churchill *b. 3 Jan 1818, died in infancy: 13) *William Churchill *born on 4 Jul 1819, died in infancy. Sources: *MC1/Chuchill*, 25 pages: file contains excerpts from *The Churchill Family in America *1902 by G.A. and N.W. Churchill: see *MC80/1397 *Daniel F. Johnson’s *New Brunswick lineages*, pages 193-194: see also *MC80/2642 * Wanda A. Rodney’s *The Esteys*, Vol 1, page 27. What I find interesting about this family, besides the names, is that the father, Nathaniel, died in Fredericton, York Co. - & York is where Jerusha was married.... plus this Jerusha Churchill had 2 brothers who went to Ontario which is where she went to as well. These records also appear on WorldConnect http://wc.rootsweb.com and the submitters names & email addresses are also shown. Even though none of them have Jerusha's spouse, that doesn't mean that they don't have this information in their records somewhere. Hopefully, this isn't stearing you in the wrong direction but they may be worth looking at and finding out more about. I would also check the New Brunswick Archives website (which is down at the moment) - if you haven't already - on the Vital Stats of NB Newspapers & early Land Petitions & Grants for your people.
