In a box of old family pictures, I have found three large photos of a horrific train wreck. I have no idea why my family would have them except that my uncle, Hazen Laverty (1894-1986), was a travelling engineer for the CPR. He lived in Brownville Jct. ME and travelled throughout NB in the 1930s and thereafter. Picture #1 shows two smashed engines with a freight car marked Canadian Pacific in the background. Picture #2 shows piles of debris and an engine marked 3546. There is a huge church in the background. Picture #3 shows a man standing on the wreckage and a crane attached to a large item marked Canadian Pacific. There is a crowd of onlookers and what I think are three cabooses beyond the wreckage. As Jay suggested I forwarded this info to the NB Railway museum and also to the CPR archives at archives@cpr.ca I doubt if this is the Centreville accident as there is a huge church in the background (looks like a cathedral). I have scanned the photos and will forward if there is any interest. I am wondering if the Saint John marriages of the 1840s include both Protestant and Roman Catholic marriages? If so, I would be most grateful for a look-up of any RC Sweeney marriages. Thanks in advance. Pearl
Pearl, For a reasonable donation the RC archives in Saint John will do a look up. david ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pearl Saunders" <pearl.saunders@ns.sympatico.ca> To: <newbrunswick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 04, 2010 2:49 PM Subject: [ NB ] Saint John marriages >I am wondering if the Saint John marriages of the 1840s include both > Protestant and Roman Catholic marriages? Would anyone have info on a train accident in Centreville 1934 where several young men were killed? Thank you.
Hi All, I am the g-granddaughter of George MORRISEY, b.c. 1845, a sea captain. He was born in Saint John but was back in England in 1891 where he settled. He married Mercy Connor McKenzie who is very well documented. His father, also George MORRISEY, b.c.1819, also a sea captain, was born in England, possibly Liverpool, and he settled in Saint John, married Catherine CONNOR and later Amelia Jane SEELY. I can find George junior in the 1871 census of Canada, various ship records and 1891 and 1901 census, England. I can't find George senior at all, except one Family Search record suggesting he was born in Liverpool. Any suggestions as to where I might find him? In particular, I began this research about 7 years ago and then had to stop to cater for sick parents. At that time I found a Museum (maybe library) online which had several records relating to George (either father or son). However I could not access them from England. I know the place was NW of Saint John and I believe it was located in the region of the Albert County Museum. But when I visited their website I could not find the records which there were references to before. So have I got the wrong museum or am I not using the site correctly? Any information or advice greatly appreciated. Christine
I just rec'd this notice from Global Genealogy.....enjoy!!! New version of the Canadian Naturalization database By Sylvie Tremblay, Chief, Genealogy Services, Library and Archives Canada Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce the release of a new version of the online database Canadian Naturalization 1915-1951. Canadian Naturalization 1915-1951 now includes digitized images of the lists of names of people who applied for and obtained status as naturalized Canadians between 1932 and 1951; these lists were originally published in the Canada Gazette. This database is one of the few Canadian genealogical resources specifically designed to benefit researchers having roots other than British. The reference numbers indicated in the database can be used to request copies of the original naturalization records, which are held by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Library and Archives Canada would like to thank the Jewish Genealogical Society of Montreal and its volunteers, without whom this project would not have happened. * Search by Name (1915-1932) * Search by Date (1932-1951) Here's the link............... http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/naturalization-1915-1932/index-e.html Marilyn
Hi List, My ancestor Henry A. NICE (1784-1864) married Ann NELSON (1785-1861) on 30 Jul 1804, Saint John. I have never been able to find her parents nor siblings. I found out that Henry was the witness to a marriage 08 Jun 1822, Saint John, between a William ATTLEE or ATLEE and a Margaret NELSON. Vital Stats from NB Newspapers shows that William ATTLEE or ATLEE, aged 76, died 22 Dec 1868, Saint John, and Margaret Nelson ATLEE, aged 65, died 3 Nov 1849, Saint John. She left 3 children. This would make Margaret's birth year c1784 - within a year of Ann's - they may have been sisters but I have not been able to find any records. I have done a lot of research on the children of Henry A. & Ann Nelson Nice but nothing has been found regarding their mother. William & Margaret Nelson Atlee's 3 children were: Sarah Atlee (1823-1851) - never married. Unknown child Elizabeth Eleanor Atlee (c1830-1880) married Henry ROWAN of Portland Parish, St John Co. I'm hoping someone may know of these people or of the Nelsons. Shirley

Are you tracing a female ancestor....? Cemeteries online have spousal duplicated photographs. This means a photo of a stone which also has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches using the onboard search engine, for a surname, the spouse's surname will be reported as a separate "search result". * 2. Over the years it has been apparent that this website is instrumental in breaking down researchers' brick walls. In fact many folks have travelled to cemeteries which are onboard to physically observe the grave markers. Please note that on some cemeteries we have included the contact information for the cemetery "record holders". * 3. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means a volunteer has not photographed and sent me the cemetery photographs. Can you or some of your family or friends help out by photographing the missing cemeteries....? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors. Hi to all on the list: Having some problems with my GGF&M. as follows: Isreal G. CHURCHILL born 1837 in Woodstock. died 22 Jan. 1901 in Woodstock according to info. from N.B. Archives. Married Elizabeth Eleanor WILLIAMS, cannot find marriage licence. She was from Kingston, Ontario. Had the following children: Anna -- 1862 Mary E 1865 Minerva Jane 1867 my GM Ella 1871 Rhoda Alma 1873 C. Isreal 1877 J. Edward 1880 I do not know where Isreal CHURCHILL came from or who he was. It seems that there was another Isreal Gerow CHURCHILL born about the same time in Carlton Co. and died one year earlier than my CHURCHILL. Isreal Gerow belongs to the line from N.S. Any help sure would be appriciated. Best to all, Ken and Elsie Enderby, B.C.

Hi List, Would someone with the early Saint John Marriage books be able to look up 5 Crabb/Crabtree marriages for me? They, along with Giggey families, and others, left New Brunswick for Kane Co. Illinois and were there by the 1850 & 1860 IL censuses. I have the following dates - but not sure of accuracy: John James Crabtree m. Mary Jane Darragh 09 Aug 1849 Frances Crabb m. Edmund Hay Wallace 17 May 1836 Richard "Arnold" Crabtree m. Rachel Crabb 01 May 1847 Charles William Crabtree m. Charlotte Fillmore c1841 < maybe Saint John William Henry Crabtree m. Margaret Giggey c1849 Thanks so much, Shirley
