When a child is issued a new birth certificate after adoption, does the certificate have "adopted" on it.
Hi Margaret I can only speak of the English/Welsh system but expect it to be much the same in New Zealand The original birth cert with the authorities is annotated "adopted" but the new birth cert is not Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/07/2018 08:57, Margaret Hubert wrote: > When a child is issued a new birth certificate after adoption, does the certificate have "adopted" on it.
In Victoria where I live, I know that in the distant past, a child who was adopted was granted a new certificate under the surname of the adoptive parents, and that there was a distinguishing prefix number attached to the registration number. Registry staff would be alert, as well as staff in adoption agencies. There was considerable concern about this "discrimination" and impetus to change this practice . My understanding is that changes occurred in 1989 to ensure that all birth certificates for adopted children were not identifiable, and that the registration numbers were in line with every other non adopted child. End of discriminatory practice! It may be useful to have a discussion with registry staff in NZ Chris in Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Hubert" <margzz@xtra.co.nz> To: "new-zealand-l@rootsweb.com" <NEW-ZEALAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2018 5:57 PM Subject: [nz]adoption > When a child is issued a new birth certificate after adoption, does the > certificate have "adopted" on it. > > _______________________________________________ > > The List Guidelines > > http://new-zealand-l.blogspot.com/ > > _______________________________________________ > Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref > Unsubscribe and Archives > https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/search/new-zealand > Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: > https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 > Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog > RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb > community
Hi Margaret, I have a child who was adopted in June 1918. The birth certificate issued at that time states "Adopting parents" in the column headed Parents- where married, where married etc but has brackets linking to the Adopting Father's name in the Father's column and the Adopting Mother's name in the Mother's column. It makes it very clear. Hope this helps. Hi, The HJR I am looking at was on the Marion to Tasmania in 1847 having been convicted of crimes in Northumberland. Links I have found are 1. https://convictrecords.com.au/ships/marion/1847 2. https://convictrecords.com.au/convicts/richards/henry-james/13300 3. http://onesearch.slq.qld.gov.au/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=slq_alma21136978480002061&context=L&vid=SLQ&lang=en_US&search_scope=FHCOMBINED&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=fhcombined&query=any,contains,Henry%20James%20Richards&sortby=rank I have been trying to establish what happened to him and if he is in fact the Henry James Richards who married Mary Ann Collins on 26 May 1866, as the ages are quite different. Is there anyone knowledgeable about Oz records who can help please. I am not looking for anything after their marriage or the move to NZ. Any help I can get would be appreciated.
