Hansen Family History Finally, in November 1814, the Active set out on her second voyage to New Zealand with Captain Thomas Hansen in command, replacing Dillon. This time, the brig carried a total of 35 passengers, crew and returning natives plus an incredible collection of cattle, livestock, poultry, goats, cats and dogs according to passenger John Liddiard Nicholas. Betty (Elizabeth) Atkinson, has thousands of descendants in N.Z. Elizabeth Atkinson Tollis ( dau. of Betty Atkinson & Thomas Tollis,) married at age 16yrs., Thomas Hansen, moved back to Bay of Islands , New Zealand, produced 11 living children. He was a Trader, Farmer, Builder, and probably anything else, needed to feed his family. The first Hansen Reunion was 1990, the second 2015 . The Hansen family was the first Pakeha ( non Maori) family to arrive ( 1814), and settle permanently in New Zealand.
