    3. Annual lists of registered nurses and midwifes used to appear in the official New Zealand Gazette for several decades, probably for the 1930s and 1940s at least. There were separate lists for nurses and midwifes, and separate categories (A and B?) for those who had qualified by exam and for older nurses and midwifes who had practised for several years before compulsory registration came in. Called the “grandfather” qualification; here perhaps “grandmother” ! The lists used to give an address (home or work) and may mention the date and hospital of qualification. I don’t think the old New Zealand Gazettes are online, but public libraries may have old bound volumes (up to three a year) or may have a scanned version (Adobe PDF files; searchable although rather convoluted to set up the volumes to be searched (for up to a decade?).
