Hi All: Travel from Ontario to New Zealand in the 19th century would probably be by sea from Vancouver or San Francisco. In 1869 the Transcontinental Railroad to California was opened, and the “Frisco Mail” was then the quickest route for mail and newspapers from Britain to New Zealand. I think it was subsidised by the New Zealand Government.
