Since it does not appear possible to add notes to Denise & Peter’s shipping lists any more I will record my findings on this list, on the off-chance a descendant passes this way in the future. The Bree family, as recorded arriving on the Claramont in Auckland on 25 March 1963, according to the newspapers of the time, were W (sic) Bree, Harriett, Anna, Bertha, Reginald, and Alice Bree. I believe W Bree to be the Rev Edward Nugent Bree; and although Harriet is recorded as a Bree, I believe her to be Harriet LAMPEN; and Anna, Bertha, Reginald and Alice were the Rev Bree’s children. In the 1861 Census Harriet LAMPIN is a visitor with Edward N & Elizabeth Bree and family. Edward’s first wife was Hannah and Elizabeth was his second. His children to both wives as recorded in the 1841-61 censuses were: Eleanor Ann* b 1836 Lucy Martina, b 1838 Adela Bertha*, b 1844 Edward Augustus, b 1847, d 1854 Miles Reginald*, b 1850 Alice W*, b 1852 * emigrated on board the Claramont. Harriet Lampen becomes a busy member of the St Stephens parish, Auckland, and in 1868 marries Edouard Eugene CAFLER of Whangarei. Together they have two children, Alfred Edouard Cafler (later to marry Agnes Isabel HAIGH) and Alice Mary Cafler (marries Stanley Walter BEDLINGTON). Harriet dies in 1897 in Whangarei. Harriet is the daughter of Jospeh Skinner LAMPEN (1807-1856) and Mary Northey ABBOTT (1812-1895), and the sister of my ancestor, Catherine Abbott LAMPEN (1838-1896) who in 1862 married Frederick William SMITH (1822-1908). If anyone has knowledge of Harriet or other Lampen family in New Zealand I would be keen to hear. Elizabeth O’Connell
