Afternoon. Does anyone know if there was an epidemic or flu or something sweeping Auckland in mid-late September 1854 that would kill several children from the same family, with a week or so of each other? Thanks, Beth

My wife's ancestors left London in the 1850s to escape the rampant TB then present; One of the daughters had to be carried aboard the ship and was able to walk off it in Adelaide, and survived for several years. Scarlet Fever? I seem to recall there is a mass grave beside "All Saints" church in Howick for about 15 children. Many related and some of Minister Lush's own children. Typhoid fever was also endemic in Auckland at the time. Short time between onset and death. Highly contagious. Take your pick really :0. I meant to include this link in my last posting. https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=vcsr&GSvcid=515180 These are only from the Catholic church cemetery. I might add that many of the Fencible residents moved to Auckland for work, returning to Howick for Church on Sunday, as it was part of their "Fencible" entitlement condition. My point is that Howick was not as isolated as one might have thought and across city contagion very possible.
