    3. The Auckland Centennial Roll 1940 by Forbes Eadie lists Auckland pioneer settlers; the full title is “Roll of Early Settlers and Descendants in the Auckland Province prior to the end of 1852”. It lists two arrivals from New Plymouth on HM Brig Victoria, Auckland 1-8-1847 (NB: 1847 not 1844?); William Bagnall (1803-1884) and Mrs William Bagnall (Lydia?) (1804-1888) page 7. Also Richard Seccombe (1802 - ?) arrived Amelia Thompson New Plymouth 3-9-1841 page 206. There may by an arrival on HMS Hazard also. The book, printed by the Centennial Committee, has 260 pages of 21 per page or about 540 names, including some born in the province. Accessible copy in Turnbull Library (ATL/NL books in the basement collections are still not accessible after the earthquake, like some files in National Archives). The Wellington Pioneer Roll of 1940 by Dr Guy Scholefield has Arrivals in Wellington and those (non- Māori) born in the province to the end of 1865. It is a photocopied card index, held in the Wellington Public Library, along with his correspondence with descendants in 1939-40. He prepared trees for some families, and the Scholefield papers have been indexed by the Wellington Branch of the NZGS. Yours, John Wilson Subject: [nz] Government brig VICTORIA 1844 Hello. I understand that in December 1844, the Government brig VICTORIA was involved in ferrying unhappy settlers from the New Plymouth settlement to Auckland. I cannot find any reference to this however on the net. Does anyone know whether this is correct? Or have any information about it? And if it did happen, is there a list of name of those settlers who travelled to Auckland. I would like to see if my rellies were among them. Thanks, Beth

    3. Thanks John. Are either of these rolls available online? I am looking for Thomas Power, Who may have been part of Hobson's staff both at the Bay of Islands and in Auckland and then went to Te Awamutu at the direction of George Grey. There he worked with Rev Morgan on developing commercial scale agriculture. He married Rahapa te Hauata and settled at Rangiaowhia.
