Sgt Judd enlisted on 20 May 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Anchises on 26 August 1915. He was transferred to the 59th Battalion on 24 February 1916 and then to the 5th Pioneer Battalion on 21 March 1916. He returned to Australia on 11 January 1918 leaving on the Port Darwin.
