Hi Adele At the Pyes Pa cemetery, where I am a volunteer, if ashes are buried they are classed as a burial. When I questioned the practice I was told that they is how they do things. Evidently a lot of cemeteries do it that way. I am currently checking local cemetery records, and listing errors for Carterton Council, spellings mainly and anything else I can find incorrect, what worries me, when its supposed to be a burial they more than one have ashes, now when did cremation start here in NZ please! Cover myself! I cannot see many of the early settlers would have been cremated, as where would they have to take the body, Karori? Nowadays Clareville Cemetery Carterton have their own Crematorium in the cemetery. Am finding some names although are buried at Clareville are not even listed so in some cases completely inccorect with the name, one in particular is the STILBORN surname, they have one under BURTON, which is part of Christian names before the surname of Stilborn. This error, I have to go to the cemetery myself and see the headstone, then check BDMS list on site for correct names.. but someone must do it,helps me learn names as well as history! If its not correct at the start, it is followed with family and other sites. each error I find, make a note off it then email it direct to council to be altered. only doing ones I know off first, like Melville Neich they had it as NEVVILLE easy error, but has to be rectified. I have the family book to check correct spellings! With the burials versa's ash, it goes down in your family tree as Ash, and its incorrect. hate errors my friends, so why I can will help council.. and enjoy doing it, I know I started some years ago, but a lot has happened since then with my health and unable to carry on until now.. -- Adele Pentony-Graham Carterton Cemetery Clareville Researcher Carterton Researcher. and Featherston.
