    3. I had the same issue, Patsy, so I used the facility on the left of the screen to report an error. (I also made a comment). Ancestry has since thanked me for my contribution and invited me to click on the link to view their changes. When I did so I found the original entry was unaltered. My comment, showing the correction, was the only means of picking up the correction! Good luck!!!! 3. Apologies - meant to send to the list as well :-) In my experience, that is the way Ancestry has always handled corrections - showing them as a comment. My early corrections of some census transcriptions handled in the same manner. FreeBMD generally shows corrections in a similar manner as well. I guess we're fortunate that DIA seem to correct the database entry so that the corrected name shows in a query (Oh to have place names and the ability for wildcard searching though). I haven't had too much spare time to browse this collection but do these errors look like the result of an OCR operation? The place name errors can't have come from the original fiche entries as prior to 1956 they weren't there. My own entry shows I was registered in NZ rather than my place of birth. As there don't seem to be images attached to the entries (at least not when I looked), we should, as a matter of course, be checking the fiche ourselves, else we're looking at a transcription of a transcription! 3. Sadly, folks, that is the way Ancestry does things. >I had the same issue, Patsy, so I used the facility on the left of the >screen to report an error. My comment, showing the correction, was the only means of picking >up the correction! I had a battle with them a few years ago when I discovered an error in transcription. They had put the second name as the surname, so I found it by sheer fluke. I was looking at the original, which was, of course, quite correct. However the transcript was totally wrong. They accepted my comment but would not change the index, no way. So if you find a mistake, make a comment so people can see that and know what it should be. I find their attitude arrogant, unbending and unhelpful, but that is the way they are. I have been helped many times by their site, so I guess the bad is outweighed by the good. So if you find errors, put your comment on, every time! Fortunately other sites are able to admit mistakes and correct them. 3. If you search for John Maurice Maltby born 1882 in 1911 census you will see original plus corrected name with the pen click on this you will see who made the correction, as a diffeferent point I have found some corrections that are wrong, so if there is a pen check what is there, btw this name is not mine it just came up when I was looking for an example ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shirley" <sthomson@clear.net.nz> To: "'Blanche Charles'" <blanchec@paradise.net.nz>; <new-zealand@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, 1 June 2014 10:47 Subject: Re: [nz] error in NZ bdm on ancestry > Sadly, folks, that is the way Ancestry does things. > > >>I had the same issue, Patsy, so I used the facility on the left of the >>screen to report an error.
