Is there anyone on the list, living in Christchurch, who would check out a grave, and the burial register at the Sydenham Cemetery please ? Ebenezer Forsyth died in the Christchurch Hospital on the 3rd of August 1911, and was buried on the 7th in the Sydenham Cemetery. I have details of his grave Block and Plot number, and suspect it was in a "paupers grave" and that there will not be a headstone, but need to check the grave itself and details from the burial register to see what details were recorded against his burial, and by whom. Ebenezer arrived in NZ in 1860 with another bloke Robert Pringle, who drowned in the Ohow River in 1862. Robert Pringle was a younger brother to Ebenezer's eldest sister's husband. Ebenezer's next younger sister Margaret and her family followed Ebenezer to NZ in late 1861, and settled in Dunedin. Ebenezer did not keep much contact with his family in NZ or back in Scotland; did not marry, and was working as a labourer at the time of his death, aged 77 years. Administration of his estate was granted to the Public Trustee. His sister Margaret is my great grandmother, and we have been hunting for Ebenezer all over the planet, even thinking he may have gone to Canada, but details from family letters have finally shed light on his life, and we can now finally lay him to rest.
