Hi Colleen: Where a will was held depend on where it was probated, and that would be done after death not when the will was made. New Zealand probates are held in the branches of Archives (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin) which all hold court records, although up to c1950 Public Trust wills were probated through the Wellington court. See Research Guide No 2, Personal Identity p8-11: http://archives.govt.nz/research/guides And while each will (or intestate estates) has its own file, not all of the names of the person involved are indexed in Archway; so for some courts/periods you will need to check a paper index book etc for whatever is the appropriate court. This might apply to both early and some post-1980-81 wills/probates (and also to other subjects like divorces). Some of the wills etc are going online (via the LDS?) these will only be a minority, and most files have to be seen at the branch of Archives NZ holding it. Hi Colleen, Even if the person died in Brisbane if they held property in New Zealand there may be a copy of the will or documents relating to probate here in New Zealand so I would check Archway first to see if there is any reference.
