Hi Paddy, I think you might be victim to a kiwi prank there (up there with my dad telling visiting English cousins that the cabbage on the table was from the cabbage tree in the back yard!) as far as I know the only Maori link to the Royal family was the recent wedding of Lady Davina and Gary Lewis. There was a story that the family of Sir Robert Rex premier of Nuie were descended from an illegitimate child of a member of the royal family. A former all black or 7s player is part of that family and once said they had royal connections. May well be true as many people in England especially in the aristocracy are descendants of Charles II's mistresses. When Prince William eventually becomes King he will be the first King since Charles II with Stuart blood from 2 of Princess Diana's ancestors.
