I know this question has been posted on this list a few times many years ago, but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to obtain patient or admission records for the Costley Home? I'm after records for Leon Samwells, died at the home in 1893. He was an acrobat, part of my Samwell circus family I am researching. I have his death certificate, and I have looked up the Auckland National Archives but there are no records. I thought I should ask this list before investigating further. Thank you. Hi Caroline, My gt gt grandfather was a resident, on and off, over a period of years in the Costley Home for the Aged Poor in Auckland. He died there in 1913. To date the only information I could gather about him was in the Minute books of that institution. These are held in Auckland National Archives. I paid for a researcher in the Archives to hunt out anything on him from these books. Sadly there was not a lot of information but what I received confirmed some things and also added something about his personality! My gt gt grandfather appeared in the Auckland Star a few times and once I knew his Costley Home dates etc, plus electoral roll information I was able to piece more together about him. I don't live in Auckland so I can't help you by visiting the Archives there but perhaps an Auckland researcher off the NZ list might be able to help you.
