Sligo in Ireland set sail for New Zealand around 1880 but the ship was lost at sea and the passengers and crew were never heard of again. She was either Deborah or Margaret. I don't know her husband's name, but it could possibly be Barclay. I have identified three major ships lost coming to New Zealand around this time - the 'Cospatrick" which caught fire off the coast of Africa in 1874 with the loss of 470 lives and only 3 survived. No recognizable name in the passenger list, and probably too early. Besides the family story says no one survived. The Trevalyn which foundered off the Cape of Good Hope in 1888 with the loss of all hands is a prime suspect, but apparently she was not carrying any passengers. The Knowlsley Hall, lost enroute to Lyttleton in 1879 with all 50 crew and 100 passengers. She was possibly part of a Barclay family in the list of passengers. Is anyone researching shipwrecks to NZ and has more information about the immigrants that were lost? Regards, Ray Greer
