    3. Norwegian family history, I was wondering if anyone has done any family research in Norway as it can get very confusing. One of my ancestors Otto Frederick OLSEN immigrated to NZ from Norway in the 1800's settled in Timaru and died in Auckland. I was trying to trace his family back in Norway. Otto was born in Forstraden, which I believe is now Fredrikstad, his father was Ole Krog Johansen born 1799 in Borre, Vestfold, Norway and Otto's mother was Elen Sorensdatter born in Skjeberg Parish, Ostfold County, Norway. For the longest time I was wondering why Otto's father's last name was not the same as his, until reading about the Norse people seems that the males born with "Sen" at the end of there name was the same as "Son" So OLSEN would mean son of Ole which makes sense since Otto's fathers name was OLE Johansen.."hence son of Johan". The females surname that ends with datter means daughter so his mother Elen Sorendatter would have been daughter of Soren. Sorry if that was to confusing. Does anyone know how I can find more information on Ole Krog Johansen and Elen Sorensdatter in Norway? I am trying to find out who their mother and father were.
