    3. Hi all I have watched the various comments with some amusement I must admit I can't speak for how the errors came about but presumably by some sort of mapping table error But would just point out the index is just that, an *index* and it is a *transcript* Yes it should be as accurate at least as the transcript it was derived from but like many large databases, human error creeps in On Patsys original question, how to get it corrected As others have said you use add alternate information (found from the transcript on most Ancestry databases) In this case you can add a change to Name, Birth year or Birth place You can also add the reason for the additional information The benefits of such a system are several, it updates the database for future researchers (and yourself), it leaves the original in place (not all added information is correct), the added/alternative information will be added to the main searchable database in usually about 14 days, thereon either will come up in a search One major benefit of adding corrections is that your user id is linked to it, any future researcher finding the correction will be able to contact you and perhaps make a link which may have otherwise been missed I just tested one or two entries on Ancestry, which came up where I expected them to be, I then tried the Government indexes, woefully clunky though they are, I found the entries which added the parents names (in this case births) So use the searchable indexes of both, whilst not perfect the Ancestry database is a whole lot quicker, but use them for what they are, a guide to further research required What would you rather have, no indexes at all? Not me thats for sure :-) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > Hi listers > they have spelt MY name incorrectly on the Ancestry NZ Birth index how > do I get that corrected? does anyone know?? > > cheers > Patsy
