    3. I'd like to contact descendants of Neil & Christina MCDONALD who lived at Lairg, Sutherland, Scotland. Someone in New Zealand has a tree online, as follows, with the above as their ancestors, but does not have Christina's surname and I am sure that whoever it is has been beating his or her head against what seems to be a brick wall trying to find Christina's family. Neil & Christina had a son John MCDONALD, a policeman who married Jane/Jean GILCHRIST. John & Jane had a daughter Christina MCDONALD who married George SUTHERLAND. Christina & George had a son Angus McDonald SUTHERLAND who married Margaret Fraser PATERSON. This couple ended up in New Zealand. Angus & Margaret had a daughter Adaline SUTHERLAND who married John Gordon MOXON. Christina who married Neil MCDONALD was Christina MCDONALD, a younger sister to my ancestor Finlay MCDONALD. She was baptised MCCOIRL, not MCDONALD. I have a truckload of information on Christina's side for descendants but can't help much with Neil although there are a couple of clues as to location. Here's Christina's baptism: OPR - Parish of Lairg, County of Sutherland: "1785 ... May 6 Angus MCCOIRL, Brecklead. Christian. Here's her eldest sibling Margaret's baptism: OPR - Parish of Lairg, County of Sutherland: "1771 ... Nov'r 17 Angus MCDONALD, MCCOIRL, Auldebreck. Margt." Here's Christina's marriage: Scotlandspeople http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ OPR Extract - Parish of Lairg, County of Sutherland - Marriage "1815 ... March 12 Neil MCDONALD Bualindun & Christy MCDONALD Achtomlinie, P. of Rogart." Achtomlinie above was over the border in Rogart parish but not by much. It was the croft of Christina's brother William MCDONALD. Finlay left for Ontario from his brother's croft circa 1830. I haven’t been able to discover the parents of Neil MCDONALD but his son John the policeman who married Jane GILCHRIST was one of at least six siblings. John & Jane had at least 9 issue. Jane was the daughter of George GILCHRIST & Ann MCDONALD who had a family of at least 7 children at Latheron parish, Caithness. Jane’s sister Elizabeth married Morison SNODY and their son, also Morison SNODY, married Annie MCDONALD the daughter of John & Jane. i.e. Morison junior married his aunt (the first of her three marriages) which seems odd unless I have got something wrong. They were similar ages, Annie born 1850 and Morison 1848. Neil might be one of these two: Lairg People in the period 1812 - 1818 People named in the Day Book of William MACDONALD, Merchant of Lairg. MACDONALD Neil, Achnara, Shin, brother to John MACDONALD Neil, Badell, Shin, tailor? Peter in Christchurch.
