    1. [nz] Encrypting Virus

    3. Hi, This is a subject I have been looking at and find it a bit of a worry. For anyone who does not know what this is - An encrypting virus encrypts all your data so you cant access it and demands a ransom to get it back. Some people pay and recover their data, others pay and dont get their data. It appears the viruses are getting smarter and if you have your back up permanently attached to your computer, that can be encrypted too. The latest I have heard is an attempt at encrypting which included the dropbox file, so if successful it would mean your computer would up date dropbox and encrypt that also. If this can happen then any cloud storage is at risk where it is in sync with your computer. eg Google and Ancestory. As this is an issue for many on the list I wondered if we have a member who may be able to post some helpful hints to avoid a disaster. Regards, Calvin

    3. My 'go to' place for tech stuff is http://askleo.com/ He is good at explaining things clearly to non-technical people. I subscribe to his free newsletter. Leo also has a presence on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/askleofan?fref=ts) and holds a "Facebook Fan Friday" event each week - Saturday our time. Good place to ask questions.
