Hello all . . . I have what appears to be a confirmation certificate for a relative dated 1890, but am a trifle confused. He died some 6 years earlier in 1884 when he was in his late 20's. Was it the norm to confirm someone after death??? The church concerned is Lutheran and in New Zealand, and the relative is of German descent. Thanks. Beth
Beth, Which Lutheran Church was he Confirmed in ? There is a Film at the National Library, Wellington, I read it some years ago. Has the Mauriceville Church , Wairarapa , Danish Lutheran Church records. I do not remember what years it covered, except was very early 1900's. Has the 1906 Baptism of my Father in Law, and a Confirmation of his elder brother ( born 1890 ). All in Danish. I wonder if the first Certificate was lost, or only recorded in the Church Books. It does seem that in later times all Lutheran Church records are found together.
