Hi Angela, Have you checked the "New Zealand Gazette" to see if he was mentioned as a Railways employee? Many government department workers were mentioned there at some stage of their working lives. There's a hard-disk (ie, searchable) copy at the New Zealand Society of Genealogists' library (http://genealogy.org.nz/). Anyone can visit there, or if you are a member you could ask the free Research Service if they would look it up for you. I'm sure there are other copies around the country in other libraries, too. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Angela Reed said the following on 1/05/2014 04:13: > My Grandfather, Alfred O. Stephenson, worked for the New Zealand Railways from at least 1914 through approx. 1938. Is there anywhere that I can find any record of him working for the railways. He was a mechanic and boilermaker. When WWII came he was sworn in as a "special constable" at the time of the Queen Street Rioters and was later a traffic inspector. > > > I am trying to learn more about his life and would appreciate any assistance please. > > > Thank you > > > Angela >
